Clarke and Sharp

The Clarke-Brooks partnership is more dynamic. I think we saw that when Brooksy came on tonight. Leon and Billy simply do not have the same chemistry. But Billy's scoring record speaks for itself, and he does so much work without the ball. Genuine leader.

It's a good problem to have and I'd like to see Brooks get more time on the pitch but for now I think Billy has to start.

Billy was poor toniğht. But that's how it goes. He's always liable to get a goal out of nowhere.Chris hooked him off tonight as he wasn't finding a way into the game.
Billy knows the score and may miss out at millwall

Even in the past two seasons, which both were highly successful from an individual point of view, Sharp went through lean spells where he played poorly and came in for criticism. He took that criticism on the chin, worked hard and got back to his best.

I think those who wants everybody to keep quiet on Sharp's poor performances underestimate the value of competition for places and being under pressure to perform, maybe especially for settled senior pros. It prevents lethargy. Since his return Sharp's had some outstanding spells, where he's looked like a man possessed, bossing defenders and really leading the team in general play, not just by scoring. That's not happening at the moment, and as we're lacking a couple of other players we're missing that side of his game even more.

Billy will score goals if you provide him with chances. That fact has not changed during any of his spells with the club. Whenever Billy hasn't scored goals, it's because he's either not been provided with chances, or been played on the wing. Billy Sharp will always score goals if provided with chances. He generally won't make chances for himself, but when he receives a chance, he'll generally score :)

Both are clinical strikers, but Clarke honestly has more impact on the game, he holds the ball better and brings other players into the game smother then Sharp.
Also Brooks seems to like the pairing with Clarke more, as we've seen some good plays between the two.

Spot on - I think Sharp is getting a lot more hassle due to the things Leon has been doing so well! Just not sure that Billy will ever be the same type of player - however, put them both in a one on one situation where your life depends on them scoring, I know I'd still be picking Billy :)

Nice one, I'll look out for it.

I don't get it.

Billy is quality, everyone supports him, loves him and wants him to do well.

You keep banging this drum that everyone hates him, it's weird. Just out of interest... What level of criticism of him and his performances are okay? Because it seems regardless of what people say unless it's unrealistically positive, you have a problem. Do you think he's the best striker in the world? Champions League quality? If not, why not? If not, why are you being so negative and a 'Sharp Hater'?

I absolutely love the bloke. How can you not? His life is like 'When Saturday Comes'. Massive Blade. His name's even fucking Billy Sharp. You couldn't script it better for him to go down in Blades legend forever, especially if he captains us to the Prem.

I read this forum every day, follow loads of United fans on twitter and go to the lane as often as I can and I'm still yet to hear ANY of this shit you say is going on, and quite a few people have called you out for the same thing so can you please either explain properly what your agenda is, or fuck off.

You might have got a reasonable discussion out of me if you hadn't told me to fuck off at the end of it (which by the way is the best way to ensure that I don't).

Tyler flounce !

On a different note , why is Donaldson not getting a chance to come on ?
Has he not yet fully recovered from the hamstring injury ?

If Billy's getting no change out of big tough defenders , why not try Clayton later in games ?

And was anyone surprised to see Hansen ahead of Clayton on Tuesday ?

January could be interesting for our striking department.

Ched , Lavery , Hansen , Donaldson , Brooks , Billy & Leon.

That's 7 wages even if I've forgotten someone (and I usually do).

Surely this is one of the areas for which CW was hinting at upping the quality ?

Not quite as important as a ball-holder in MF though.

And if the fitness of Baldock & Freeman is doubtful for the rest of the season , a third RB might arrive.

This is one of the strangest posts I've ever read on here. You make a very good point about Clarke and Brooks being a more dynamic partnership. You evidence that with the improvement in performance of the team when Brooks came on. Then you conclude - "Billy has to start". :tumbleweed:

I'd leave "chemistry", "history" and "work without the ball" off the table altogether when making decisions about players. I'd just pick the most effective starting 11 based on current form. Then you may reach a different conclusion.

Leon and billy show on goals alone that they are the first choices and should be , sure others will get chances through injury or these needing a rest ( or longer sub appearnces) but they have scored a fantastic number of goals between them already this season ( and several assists)

Billy hasn't scored for 2 games and suddenly he is probably rubbish according to some !

Wonder how much it would cost us to get 2 champ strikers who are nearly both already on double figures !
IMO the problem yesterday was the delivery / final ball

Every cross (bar the one by fleck for Leon first half) , was poor and thought are free kicks and corners were also poor

IMO when you have 2 strikers who are scoring so freely these should always be 2 of first on the team sheet and look at the service
