I agree 1889 and yes all of the above apart from Adams is spot on. Adams was never in the academy set up.

I think the number of good professional players to come out of our academy is excellent but not many have regularly played for SUFC. Except Maguire.

Then and now we cash in too quickly

I think it’s a little unfair to say United cash in too early.

If young players break into the first team and play well, they’ll attract attention from the Premier League.
If those players are offered the opportunity to play at a higher level and earn a salary way, way beyond our budget, how can United possibly keep hold of them?

In all fairness we shipped Billy off to Scunthorpe for £100k because he was deemed not good enough. Or was that because we needed the cash. Not sure on that one.

We are talking home grown academy players but let’s take loan ones as well.

DCL . Was shipped off as soon as possible.
Adams. Was shipped off as soon as possible
Ramsdale. Was shipped off as soon as possible playing 2 games
Brooks. Only played 12 games, then off he went
Eastwood. No where near first team
Chapman. Not our player, hardly played
Riley. Not our player, played once?
Bennett. No where near first team played once
Carter Vickers. Not our player. Lasted 6 months, never a regular
Slater. 2 cup appearances. No where near first team, then he signs Leonard.
Henderson. Not our player but yes has played week on week
Woodburn. Not our player. Lucky to have played 30 minutes.

I will add Thomas, Heneghan, Mcgaey if you want.

My point is clear. Apart from Henderson CW does not play young players. Homegrown or not.

There is nothing wrong with that at all. If we do not produce good enough players then that’s to be expected.

That's a lie. What about Billy Sharp? The way he's playing he's in is early 20's.

Our wage bill whilst we were in league one crippled us, why it was so much is down to absolute piss poor decisions from top to bottom.

People trying to blame the academy for this are in my opinion, in the best way possible, talking bollocks.

The academy and it’s players are in credit tenfold.

Looking at this thread again after its resurrection, every single player that made a league appearance for us this season was acquired from another club. We didn't use any player who started in our academy, save for Sharp who was of course home grown but sold (twice) and re-signed. So no one in the side went from the academy to the current first team.

I wonder whether that is the first time that has happened in our history. Even Dave Bassett used the likes of Ward and Whitehouse.
