He's bulked up a bit hasn't he!
Maybe it's a good thing eh, bit of strength and not too slow..yet ;)

Anyhow, I reckon he's a shoe-in to start against Manure. Stick him in the shop window and hope he can bang an eye-catching goal in!

Seemed to be getting a bit frustrated at himself before the sending off, hope the lad can get his head together and get back to being the exciting prospect we all raved about early on.

UTB!

A good performance against Man Utd could single handedly get him a move. Fingers crossed he has a stormer. It would be a nice bonus on top of the money we'll already be getting from the gate receipts.

Yes you can tell he's been in the gym over the summer and until now.

It shows strength of mind and good commitment which can only be of benefit for football.

Indeed...it is January after all...though it would be interesting if we sold someone, ( I'm presuming!?!?!?) is at the lower end of our wage scale...

Why the fuck would you be wanting to sell the best young prospects we have ??

I agree....but to play devil's advocate, how many others could we sell that would generate the cash for Adkin's to buy the two or three needed to push on?

Which appears to be our scenario...there's always some desperate idiot paying over the odd's come Jan...errrmmmm..

Can't believe you quoted that.
Tell me you're joking please

As I've said a number of times, I think he's far more likely to fail to fulfil his potential. Too many basic weaknesses, lacks the intelligence to improve a lot of them and possibly has a questionable attitude as well.

It doesn't always automatically work out better if you keep promising young players. They won't automatically increase in value. Just because we've been wrong to sell players in the past doesn't mean we'd be wrong to sell him. Sometimes you've got to know when to cash in and I think we're approaching that time with Adams - but he could do with having a good game or two to attract interest because he hasn't for quite a while.

What are his "basic weaknesses?"

How do you know he "lacks intelligence?"

Why are we approaching the time to "cash in?"

Adams is the only player in the current squad with the demonstrated potential to play for a top Premier League club. He has strength, pace and an effortless touch - the basic ingredients to create something out of nothing, which is what the top clubs are prepared to gamble on.

You make a fair point about promising young players not always making the grade and there has been a very occasional example - e.g. Jordan Slew - when cashing in has proved wise. As a general rule I'd argue we've done better when we've held onto our younger assets - Whitehouse, Deane, Treacy, Jags et al - beyond the first serious offer.

Ricky how pessimistic are you?

Haven't you noticed what selling all our best young players too soon and too cheap has done to the club?

clue; (its been disastrous)
I don't think we should sell Che, not by any means but I do think it's right to quash the mindset of avoiding something in particular just because we haven't gone about it in the right way in the past. A lot of people take on that sort of mindset when it comes to managers as well, and it only ends up being damaging for decision making. It's annoying because most of them don't know they're doing it.

My first thought as well, that he'd put some timber on, hopefully muscle not podge

His arse has certainly got bigger.

I noticed that in the play-off games. I remember Clough saying that they kept him out of the gym because they didn't want him bulking up and Adkins has commented on him needing to improve his fitness. Adkins also mentioned on Saturday he'd had some issues recently with him.
A couple of posters on here have hinted that he likes a gargle. I don't think his weight increase is beneficial.

I don't think you're far off the mark with that assessment.

Weaknesses - footwork, awareness, work rate, decisions, speed of thought, dribbling habits, ability with his back to goal and possibly attitude and mentality.

I think he lacks intelligence because a lot of his weaknesses are centred around lacking natural football awareness and he carries on getting the basics wrong after plenty of professional appearances. He hasn't shown enough improvement. The way he's dropped off after signing his contract also leads me to question his mindset. And without being unkind, he doesn't generally seem to be the brightest either.

We're approaching the time to cash in because I think by the end of the season and beyond his performances will have deterred a few teams who may be prepared to gamble on him now. Early in the season he was doing quite well but teams have cottoned on to him, and whenever he's doubled up on and closed down properly he is totally nullified.

I'll accept Che suffers inconsistencies in some of the areas mentioned though categorically not awareness or speed of thought, which were in evidence from his debut against Southampton (and reinforced with his first goal in the semi-final at White Hart Lane). He does get stuck when he's doubled up on and he's far more effective running onto the ball. Clearly he's not the finished article - would anyone expect this of someone playing for Ilkeston just over a year ago? We've seen glimpses of a very special talent. This is no Jordan Slew and I expect any value we would get from selling him now would be dwarfed within a couple of years playing at a higher level.

My main concern, which you touch upon, is his mindset. If he doesn't commit to the life of a serious pro he could yet waste his prodigious talent. His coach/manager bears some responsibility for ensuring this doesn't happen.

Nothing to do with current form. I commented on how much of a wrong attitude you were taking.

Barney we can't all be shining lights of positivity like you, blindly clapping everything Sheffield United do as you seem to. Your positivity is ridiculous. Wake up.

I thought he looked overweight and his first touch was awful on Saturday, just my opinion of course.
