Chuffed for Done

It is.My worry is what he has left for next season. Genuinely. We have never found an appropriate partner for him in his 3 stints and my concern is that wont happen come August, unless it's Lavery who IMO will be the stand out striker.
If it hadn't been for an incorrect linesman's flag the other night, he would not be in the middle of a longish spell without a goal. All strikers have spells without goals. It is always a concern working out whether a drought is going to end - for what it's worth, I think he will start scoring again. Edwards was dropped more than once when he went a few games without a goal; I was never convinced that it was only because he was dropped that he started scoring again. At least we have a manager with good judgement and willingness to take tough decisions.

It's Sharp's own fault really. If he'd only made sure he scored once every other game this season he'd be on 21 goals and nobody would be talking about any drought. As it is he's on 26 goals and we've some of our own fans acting as though his time is up. Only in S2...

Done's goal was a great finish . I also echo most others opinion of him too ..... He works his bollox off for the team . Bottom line though , he'll be off in the summer along with a few others who have offered exactly the same application as him whenever they've been asked to .

Thank you and good luck to them all .
Thanks but no thanks good luck Matty

Some people say Hanson doesn't suit him as a partner ,but I think if you ask him to choose between big Jim and Leon I know what the answer would be.

The trick is to have a player able to come into the team when the striker hits a bad patch. Not to replace perhaps, but to bring on as sub....maybe start ahead of him but not completely replace.
That way it keeps everyone on their toes.
J
I am unsure about O'Shea . Seems to do fuck all but then scores goals. Could be a good option as a back up
i think you need to watch him more closely. He's a very good player imo and we've only seen him in patches.

There's very little loyalty from player to club. And equally from club to player. It's a pity because it wasn't this way when I first started watching - but that's the game today. "Legend" is a term of the past.

Get what you can from whom you can whilst you can. Enjoy it it. But when they've outgrown you, or you them, move on.

I like him and was glad to see him get a goal but like James Hanson he needs to be sticking the ball in the net regularly if he is to be a striker

Done being back in the team today took a bit of pressure off Billy. Matty could be the target for the experts (who know best how to advise our manager which players he should have faith in) rather than Billy who we all know has been well off the pace these last 7 games. How on earth we have managed to score 16 goals and winning 6 of those 7 matches is utterly beyond my comprehension. Not only have we tolerated Billy being a passenger over this period, but we've also had that donkey Hanson up front failing to accurately direct his headers every time, despite winning every challenge he's made with his feet some 4 foot off the ground. Oh - I nearly forgot..... that glove-wearing-work-shy-couldn't-break into-a-sweat-for-the-cause-so-called-journeyman-striker obviously has Chris Wilder under some kind of spell.
When these fans finally trash CW's team selections to such an extent he moves onto his next managerial appointment, we'll have plenty of candidates from the fan base to call on to replace him.

Done IMO was poor average today . Didn't contribute much and like half a dozen others surplus to requirements .

Thanks but no thanks .

Bang average against a very poor side .

Morgan the Motivator took us into the playoffs against the mighty Yoevel

What Done needs is neither here nor there. It's what Sheffield United need that matters and we don't need Done.
Interesting that on the back of today.
Your most hated player V Coutts today.
Done made bad passes and put the ball out from a leftback/wingback roll whilst Mr static dwelt on the ball no end of times and had it taken off him and made possibly as many if not more misplaced passes as Done.
One playing his only his second full game for weeks in a defensive roll and one playing nearly all season. One able to play down the right with partners where we have had success and outlets all season and one playing on the left where it has been a lot harder this season to deliver or find the same outlets as on the right.
Both classed as midfield players on our official site and both having scored two league goals this season.
Done was frustrating today in the fact that I thought he had two great chances to take early shots and did not and Coutts had no similar opportunities today but if that is applied to the season then Coutts frustrates so much more. Coutts has a far better first touch than Done But then dwells so much in his decision making whilst standing still where as Done s poor decisions are made on the move.
On today's performance, for me neither are good enough for the Championship.

I like his work ethic, he puts in a shift every time he plays. However as he said himself he's had a lot of chances this season and he's missed them all. Now we have been promoted and in yesterday's case 2-0 he's found the net. There was zero pressure on him or the team and that says what you need to know.

I can't believe some of the comments on here about Billy, anyone would think he's 37 reading them! Put it this way, if he wasn't a Blade he wouldn't have been playing League One football the past few years, he would have been in the Championship and still be there now.

I fully expect him to be starting next season, playing the majority of games and I'll stick my neck on the line here, he will get 10-15 goals providing he doesn't get injured. I would be more than happy with that.

Billy's knackered and rightly so. He isn't scoring but he's still captaining the team to the title.

Good work sir, I say. UTB

Plenty of Billy Sharp bashing though of course....trademark forum wankery, quelle surprise

Tyler, don't rise to it. If you'd added "only in S2" you'd start to sound like one of the other broken records on here.

The Sharp observations were mainly pretty reasonable with plenty pointing out a lean period is par for the course, as a striker.

Billy has played a massive part in promotion (I voted for him in the PoS thread) and a few average performances at the end of the season don't change that.

A superbly effective player in a great team. Nuff said.

Utter bollocks! And thats me being polite. But thats your opinion, and thats what a forum Is for I suppose

He's only 31!

He's only 31 yes....and in the context of the earlier posts, this time next season he will be 32.
And that is the time players in most cases start to really struggle fitness wise, as every injury adds up and every further injury takes longer to get over.
They lose a bit of pace and sharpness, and the point was that after another long season in the championship he might be ready to either look to drop down a tier or two to keep playing regularly, or he might decide to stay in a player/coach role.

Mr static?? Are you actually joking?
Would this be the Mr Static that has completed 400 passes (without checking the stat) more this season than his next nearest player?
How can a static player be in a position to have that much ball to make so many passes?

I can only assume you think his role in the current team is to be dribbling forwards with the ball all the time, rather than be the midfield metronome he has been all season. Just keep the side moving, keep recycling the ball. Hence why you think he is stood still.
Be interesting to see which players run more over 90 mins on average, because after the wing backs I suspect Coutts will be around 4th after Fleck. He is never still. His movement might only be 5 yards but he will do that literally hundreds of times a match.

Like most of those passes then, only 5 yards. Nowt wrong with that when he is asked to do that role. Folk have been saying how well he holds on to a ball but yesterday against a relegation threatened side he lost it so many times whilst in possession and his pass decision at times was stupid getting other players in to difficulty.
To mention him in comparison to Fleck is an insult to Fleck and if you are going to do that we may as well bring Basham in to it because he, over the last few games has been stunning and sometimes blinding in his technique and skill with who, where, when.

Personally thought Coutts had one of his better games yesterday, in fact I'd say he was up there with best. Showed good composure under pressure and passed the ball well. Also displayed a bit more aggression then he's normally known for.

I've no intention of joining in with the season-long Coutts wankathon, but as always I acknowledge a good performance when it's warranted.

I am noticing all the people who used to moan when we lost have just changed tac a little

now we can abuse players who havent scored 20 plus
and the team are poor for only beating Valke 3-0 m away
yes we won at a canter but they were shit is the new moan

said all along we will one day beat Chelsea 7 -1 at their ground and some of ours will focus on the goal we concede

thats the real blades way for some

moan like fuck about evertything

You missed those defence splitting passes then ,and the cross field all to Freeman for the last goal ? Fleck and Coutts are a partnership ,one game Fleck will be the outstanding player another time it will be Coutts and the 'insult to Fleck' you mention is from yourself as Fleck ,although seeming to have a quiet game paved the way for Coutts to perform. Just try watching them how they work together ,but regarding yesterday how anyone cannot enjoy watching Coutts ability as a footballer while playing for our team is totally beyond me.

And you can bet that the biggest admirer of Paul Coutts is John Fleck. They can't wait to get the ball to each other, because they know it won't be wasted.

Some of our less sophisticated fans prefer talentless ragamuffins who endlessly and tirelessly chase the shadows of better players. That's their prerogative but it's not for me, thanks.
