At this time of year, unexpected invitations can arrive (or, more likely, the telly is so shite you think 'Fuck it, I'm off to the pub.') so I've got ahead of the game and prepared graphs for all three outcomes at Crawley for the 'Compared to last season' thread. (18,473 views so far - is this a S24SU record?).

If we win, we're well back on track, but I think this game is too difficult to call. Here's hoping.

On Boxing Day, we face Scunny and I can already see the excuses if we fail to beat this pitiful outfit. ('Bogey team', 'Laws has 'em fired up' etc.) No excuses, the type of game we must win if we want to be serious contenders.

Talking of no excuses, a week tomorrow we host Hartlepool - rock bottom, one win, a minus 25 GD and 9 points out of a possible 66. I'm not going to add to the debate about DW, but there are simply NO excuses for failing to beat this lot. If we don't, expect the mutiny to begin.

7 points from the next nine (as long as 3 come against fucking Hartlepool) should see us go into the New Year with some optimism.

Then it's Donny away...

Compared to the same set of fixtures last year we are more than 2 points up. If we continue to match this then we will finish with more than 90 points. We beat Hartlepool and Scunny at home last year and the Crawley equivalent is 2.5 points (in the away games with relegated teams we drew with Exeter, lost to Wycombe and beat Rochdale and Chesterfield, 10points divided by 4=2.5).

A draw tomorrow and 2 wins would leave us with almost exactly the same points from the equivalent games last season going into the new year. I would hazard a guess it would put us top, or very least cemeted in the top 2. Then we have an away trip to (the now stuttering) Donny. I'd be fairly happy with a draw tomorrow, but they are not good and I would like to see us go for it. There are simply no excuses for the next 2 home games. We are in a good position and have a great chance to push on and make a claim for automatic promotion.

Anything less than 6 points against Scunny and Hartlepool would be woeful IMO.
I'll stick my neck out and say we'll win both of those, get at least a point tomorrow then go into the Donny game, with a good following behind us and win that one too. With players coming back into the squad i've gotta try and stay optimistic for my own sanity!!!
