Outgoing? Chris Wilder

This happens up and down the football world. The Prince didn't comment on the rumours that Wilder was being lined up to replace Hecky. Spurs didn't comment on Ange going. Boro didn't comment about Carrick going. It might be shit but it's how every club operates

If he's staying then why comment on it? You're only going raise suspicion whenever another rumour comes out and you don't comment on it.

If he's going they likely want to talk to him face to face, agree a severance package and have a new boss lined up.
Some of em on here, like spoilt kids demanding this, demanding that. The owners are business people with lots at stake, they will get their ducks in a row before announcing anything. It’s like the school gate on here and radio Sheffield.

Misunderstanding about AI is making us look like Luddite's stood at the owners door with pick axe handles. Get a book or two, understand it and how it will be used to augment the scouting process, speed it up, crunch data. Don’t expect our starting 11 to look like this……

Gary Sinclair, August 2025:

There's an interview with Wilder somewhere saying he put a presentation to the board about signing Cannon. If you listen to his interview post signing on the official YouTube channel, he also says Cannon was someone he and the board both agreed on.
There's also an interview with Bettis where he says that in January Wilder didn't specify Cannon nor striker to the board.

He said that Wilder wanted him in summer and so they asked if he still wanted him as a bonus signing (was to show they was serious and backing him).

I was responding to someone saying that talk of Wilder being replaced being his back is unprofessional and unfair. I was merely pointing out that it was no different to when Wilder held talks with the club to return whilst Hecky was still manager. The two faced back stabbingness is the way of football and Wilder was sleezy doing this behind "My mate Paul's" back.
How do you know this is "behind his back"!??

Bettis - “Chris [Wilder] highlighted four positions he wanted to strengthen, and those were filled by Ben Brereton Diaz, Hamza Choudhury, Harry Clarke, and Rob Holding. Then there was a fifth in Tom Cannon, who wasn’t a priority initially but was someone Chris wanted since the summer.”

Wilder - “Cannon is someone we’ve tracked for a while and is a signing which ticked all the boxes with everyone involved in the process. It's a super signing for us. Somebody we have tracked for a long time and known about for a long time. He's a young hungry player, position specific, we needed someone who could play on the shoulder and stretch the game, which he does. As soon as we talked about our enthusiasm to get this done, speaking to the boy, he knows what we're all about, He knows the club are ambitious and I thank the board and the co-chairmen for the backing and support, not just with this signing, but the whole process of what we've been going through and how they've wanted to support me during the window. We're all on the same page with this signing. Great age, we believe he'll play a big part and hopefully a successful second part of this season and beyond as well. He can hopefully realise all his ambitions here with us and for me it is a really good signing."

The comments on Cannon have not aged well 😂

I pointed this out to Danny on twitter. He mentioned identified by the AI model but independent of this, Wilder was interested well before the takeover.

In this case, while this hasn’t worked out so far, isn’t this ideal? I.e. Manager keen and AI backs it up?

The main question that Carrick is the answer to is “who is the latest Fergie old boy to be a failure at football management”. Van Nistelroy is another answer, but there are dozens of them. The reason for this is that whilst extraordinarily successful in its time, Fergie was a complete one off and that style of management, particularly with one person having so much control over so many aspects of a club, doesn’t transfer into the modern game, which has moved on.
Which is exactly what's wrong not only with Wilder but also the structure of his job and lack of local accountability because with the best will in the world , Bettis cannot control him , despite being bumped up to the board.
Wilder & Bettis do not have a proper professional relationship , they're a pair of old buddies.

Never mind the ‘Vern has seen them ‘ bit , I’m more ITK than you on this as an old pal spent the evening with them and tells me they are loving every minute of it .

Tomorrow , both have booked an early morning call to go for a dip in the sea to bring back memories of previous vacations on the Gulf Coast in Florida .
Skegness ... It's so bracing !

This needs sorting, either a statement out backing him or get rid and get the new manager in place.. we dont want to get behind on pre season etc by dragging on this decision.

So you think their behaviour is acceptable? Say nothing to the fan base. Great.
Are they obliged to comment on every bit of speculation? Which other clubs boards do this?

I understand that we are all keen to know, but it doesn’t work like that and never has.

If Cannon plays on the shoulder he should stick to being a parrot and we should sign Long John Silver as a striking partner. Out of the other four only Choudrey was worth bothering with and made any valuable contribution. BBD was poor, Clarke another sick note and Holding, through no fault of his own spent most of his time bench warming because we've got Super Jack Robinson.
