Outgoing? Chris Wilder

As much as I love wilder, he’s proven time and time again that he cannot be trusted with a bigger budget

The manager should not be trusted with any budget, be that Wilder or anyone else. Thankfully we appear to be moving away from the old models and moving to one where coaches do the coaching and recruitment does recruiting

All this talk about CW has been going on since we lost the final, so I would be surprised if he did get sacked now (even if it is recruitment disagreements as suggested today), transfer window is days from reopening, plus there's no sources (other than random speculation on here and twitter) that I've seen about any potential replacement.

Yes, if CW doesn't leave, Jimmy Ramble might have just shot himself in the foot after that video this morning, but I suppose that's a risk for content creators when it comes to dropping news from your sources.

If it happens, you and your sources were right, if it doesn't happen you were wrong and people don't forget that for a while.

Hope CW doesn't leave as I think it would be harsh after last season (despite how it ended), but it is concerning that there are no links about who any potential replacements are given these rumours (at least that I've seen).

Only if the existing manager is fully bought into the new approach.

You can't have owners and senior managers working to differing agendas, that's a sure fire recipe for failure.
That's true, but I'm sure Wilder wouldn't be disregarding it all together, why would he? After all, it's already happened three times in the last six months on Wilder's watch. He's also not a stupid man and will know the board will have their way of working, and that he's just signed Tom Cannon which doesn't look good on him.

If the relationship has really broken down solely due to that, it also implies it's not because the owners have someone better lined up. So they've then got to find somebody to replace him who will accept their approach, and also happens to be a better manager than Chris Wilder. That all feels very worrying to me.

Surely the main news outlets and associated journalists wouldn’t be mentioning this, if it wasn’t happening.

Can anyone recall announcements of a manager’s position being considered and them staying in post?

I wondered that too. Big leap in logic, but staff look like a UK airport too.

Wonder if he's got sniff of the sack and decided to bugger off for some peroni with Wit.
The timing is random if he's actually going on holiday, but equally timed with the closing of the first short transfer window, so naturally a gap to grab a short getaway whilst the FIFA WC is on. There's lots to consider regarding the idea they'd hold a meeting about his future on the day he departs for a holiday, the fact he looks in good spirits, the fact his mates saying he isn't aware of anything, the fact JR has gone live with 2 sources saying he's gone and another essentially saying "we'll talk later".

As with most bits and bobs of news during quieter periods, all the different outlets will jump on it so there's something to report and talk about.

I'd be surprised if there's nothing in it though.

EDIT: It's east midlands airport if anyone gives a shit and he's on a Jet 2 flight.

Jimmy Ramble is live atm saying that he has heard from three credible sources that Wilder is leaving. He first saw that Deadbat had reported it on Tuesday but he has now had it confirmed by three sources he knows and trusts himself.

JR is a massive Wilder fan so I doubt he would be stating this if he didn't really think it was true.

I heard Tuesday night

For me that's where I think the new owners are at. They're not just looking at promotion, they're looking beyond. Wilder may have gotten us 92 points but he's done nothing to convince me that he can keep us up after promotion. We ground out results week in, week out, rarely putting in 90 minutes of football, being outplayed by opponents including those at the bottom of the table and relied on luck. The new owners have probably seen enough matches to realise that Wilder is stubborn and won't change and that we will not stay up playing like that. This is most likely why he will be going.

If we were to finish 7th next season under a different manager but they see an improvement in our style of play and see individual players improve, I'll bet they'll stick with the manager. Whilst finishing 7th is a regression in the results, there would be progress on the pitch and in coaching. This is something our fans may need to get used to. Our new owners may be more patient and willing to ride out a couple of seasons in the Championship for the benefit of the long term. It's built into the ethos of American Sports.

I said it constantly last season, performances are more important thaj results. If you put in good performances you ll more than likely get the results. If you focus on the results and rely on luck or an opponents individual error, at some point your luck runs out.

Where does it end though

If you play this (to me knee jerk approach) to the 2 extremes we

1 become a basket case club - sacking managers Willy nilly and with no longer term plan. Every manager is a risk despite the track records - look at Slav and what he did here. This doesn’t feel like a healthy approach after he’s signed a new contract

2 - slim chance we become a Bournemouth or Brentford. We excel on player trading using a clever recruitment strategy. Feels unlikely though.

I can’t see there is much middle ground if you are getting rid of someone who was (arguably) VAR away from taking us up. And with a points total which would have made the season a success more often than not

I think the honest answer is it’s not simply a black and white answer like we reached this amount of points therefore it was great

It wasn’t, it wasn’t by any means awful either tbf but in this scenario it’s not like we are sacking him after a really great season we’re we just fell short due to some bad luck either way

The owners haven’t come in and just changed either, it’s not beyond reason to imagine your scenario but again it’s not to imagine your scenario doesn’t happen either

I can’t imagine the holiday would make any difference, the owners are probably in America so they’d just bullet him via teams anyway.
