The usual procedure is that Wilder will speak to JOC and see if he wants to go. If he’s says he’s not that bothered, CW can say he’s not for sale. If JOC does want to go CW names his price and it’s up to Brighton to meet it. Whether we’re prepared to negotiate will depend on how desperate JOC is to go, e.g. if he hands a transfer request in, like Moore has at Reading.Oh good. That's the end of it then.![]()

You have got to love that man Wilder, just tells it as it is and am sure the lads in the changing room cannot fail to be inspired by listening to him. Love his comment about lots of teams being ‘lazy recruiters’ just buying a name.16 mins of Wilder with Rob Staton:

Interestingly, three of those have strong links to the clubs they’re managing. The other played for the pigs but they’re too fucking dumb to try to recruit him. Or he’s too smart to go there.Listening to that interview with Staton, it was great to hear Tufty so upbeat - as it is that positive energy that the team feeds off.
He is currently the 4th longest serving manager in the Champ - behind Neil Harris, Dean Smith and Lee Johnson. The longer we keep that drive the stronger we get. 18 more seasons and I’ll be happy!

Just listened to it now and that confirms to me someone enquired about JF, maybe not a bid but defo an enquiry.Interesting to say 'we've resisted selling the likes of JOC and Flecky'....sounds like we had bids for JF as well then.
I heard we own the rights to his magic hat and Brighton weren't willing to shell out for a 'hat' on top of a transfer fee, as JOC won't part with itThe usual procedure is that Wilder will speak to JOC and see if he wants to go. Hughton may be better off accepting that we’ve brought in decent money this season, we don’t need to sell so we’re not going to roll over and let them pick up a bargain.
The difference between Brooks and O’Connell is that JOC is an established first team player, on reasonable money with commitments up north. He doesn’t need to chase the money as much as he’ll have already earnt a fair bit with a promotion bonus, signing fee for new contract etc. He can be a bit more relaxed about it and bide his time a bit (and will probably get another new contract and signing fee from us). He’s not going to be first choice at Brighton and he’s too old to be a ‘developing’ player.
So I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not that bothered about the move and happy to stay with us for this season.
CW saying we've hardly touched the Brooks money. I fully expect one or two big money signings on deadline day or in the coming days.16 mins of Wilder with Rob Staton:

Difficult one as if we get a silly offer regardless of our current position he would go....IMO John Egan is one of the best in the league (my opinion prior to him joining us) and he 'only' cost £4m - If an offer for JOC came in at £8-10m thats one heck of a transfer fee and I'm sure we could replace for cheaper.
Hope we keep him though as I fear selling him now wouldn't give us enough time to scout for the right player and replace like for like.
He’s bought a hat shop in Belgium called Le Chapeu Magic. One day we might be able to import some berets.Wonder if the Prince has sold his half of the rights to his magic hat to himself ?
