Chris setting his stall out

If they are unwilling or unable to invest they should sell up. We have fallen behind many clubs much smaller than us simply because they have more financial backing. McCabe has overseen the worst period in our entire history and all indications are that him and the Prince are happy to see us continue to plod along.
does the fact that these "smaller" clubs have more financial backing not mean that they are actually bigger clubs in the most critical area?

As (I think) TomJonesBlade said on another thread t'other day...its not as simple as selling him for £Xm in January. How do you replace him?
How do you avoid paying over the odds?
Who is realistically available in January?
Who would realistically be as good as or better for the money gained? No one.

To sell him, and at a time of a significantly depleted midfield would show a significant lack of ambition.

I’d argue that anyone that would get into the starting 11 and play the majority of the rest of the season would for the upcoming 6 months improve the team for that period.

He’s going to be awesome, and already is quality and provided we can get what we need in, within our budget - there is no argument WE KEEP HIM...

However let’s not forget, he’s not (in Wilders opinion) in our regular starting 11.

It’s his potential that’s worth 20mill + not his current 90 min week in week out ability - horrible as it sounds the reality is given a choice who would we have rather lost Coutts or Brooks?

For the SUFC Business - Potential is a risky commodity... and unless he starts really performing for 90 mins week in week out (which I think is a bit of an ask for the lad) he’s a luxury...

But as I say a luxury you can (And I’d like to) keep provided we get the other players we need.

I think "worst period in our entire history" is a bit strong mate.

The season leading up to our relegation to the old fourth division was much worse. These are Salad Days compared to that.

I take your point about "smaller" clubs, but they have been above us in terms of league position for a long time, whilst we've been languishing in the money pit that is League 1 for the last six years. So we are starting from a big disadvantage IMHO.
Fair enough, but we have just ended our longest period outside the top 2 divisions - which I think justifies the “worst period in our entire history” description - but yes, relegation to the 4th was awful.

I actually think we got good money for them bearing in mind Kyle was nearly 10 years ago and I don’t think there are many (non forwards) that go for 3mill from a team that had been in league 1 for 3 years.

In an ideal world you keep your best players and players with potential but its not a level playing field and it’s unrealistic to think we’ll not listen/consider bids north of 15mill - as every club in our position would/will (and even most that are financially a lot better off).

We were in the Championship mate, if you're referring to Walker. We just lost to Burnley in the play offs and then he was sold with Naughton for a combined £8m. I could agree with selling Naughton, but Walker after 8 games seemed very short sighted. Clubs like Ipswich have sold their players for far more than we have and we've had the England back line of Walker, Jags and Maguire sold for a combined £11m! I know that at the time they weren't worth what they have gone on for (minus Jags who has never moved) but we need to sell for a higher fee than we have done. As Alan Woodward said not that long ago, bless him, "we need to stop selling us best players"! Slightly different point #i know, but the point is we need to get a higher fee for our best assets. That's my view anyway.

Blackwell and Robinson. We were around £8m down from the previous season's income because the parachute payments had reduced and we had a lot of players who were overpaid due to Blackwell and Robinson offering them new contracts. KM put his trust in idiots; it cost him and it cost the club. All that money went back into the club to pay these stupid wages and pay for the shit the idiot recruited like Nosworthy, the loan players, the players on short contracts, the crocks and the useless fuckers like Stewart.

Cheers for that. Here's the direct quote from James Shield:

“You can’t squeeze permanents, or permanents that make you better, into the money you have got. I don’t want to just bring players in that are lower than what we already have, we want players to boost the group.”

It still seems to me that the press have assumed that Wilder's 4 signings will be 3 loans and 1 permanent - Leonard. It might mean that not all 4 players will be permanent, but two might be for example. Probably Cole as the potential second permanent. I can't see Fleetwood letting him got on a loan, even though there will be a loan fee, and he's out of contract. I would imagine that Cole would want to move permanently too, rather than a short term loan that could go either way and then he could be back in League One next season.

Totally totally disagree. On both counts.

Lookman can’t get in the Everton side for DCL. The same DCL who couldn’t get a game for us.

Brooks goal against Millwall was an absolute touch of class, his feet are dazzling and he is a little genius. Has it all. Would be a travesty to let him go on the cheap.

To be fair, he admitted it was a cross.

At the time we'd sold the two Kyle's we hadn't recruited Nosworthy and Stweart but we had signed Henderson at a staggering £2m, but I take your point that we had to cut costs. It was Bryan Robson's recruitment that was so expensive and other than Beattie, we got no or very little return from his buys. I always thought the appointment of Blackwell was risky, because his record was indifferent at best and he did so well in is short term contract that McCabe probably thought it was a good move to give him the job longer term and in my view that was mistake. That might be with hindsight but I wouldn't have appointed Blackwell in the short term either, but to be fair he did very well in that period and we almost made the play offs.

I didn't want him from day 1 and predicted what would happen on another board. One of the few predictions I got right. He's a coach, not a manager. Once his job became about management rather than just coaching, i.e. recruitment, leadership, long term man management, he showed his failings.

Anyway, long time ago now and I'd like to forget about those days.

Blackwell and Robinson

Of course McCabe appointed them but he thought he was putting the club in the safe hands of experienced 'professionals'. If you look at all the buys made under Robinson there is probably only Hulse and Beattie that can be considered 'successes'. We spunked tens of million on transfer fees from 2006 - 2010 and probably more on wages, for shit players with negligible resale value (except Beattie). Billy was a classic, bought for £1.5m and sold for a few hundred thousand. Robson never wanted him and wouldn't/couldn't adapt the team to play to his strengths. Blackwell put him out on the wing FFS!

All that money went back into the club to pay these stupid wages and pay for the shit the idiot recruited like Nosworthy, the loan players, the players on short contracts, the crocks and the useless fuckers like Stewart.

McCabe sanctioned these of course, but even in his worst nightmares he couldn't have realised how we always paid top doillar (£20k per week for Nyron) for shit.

Player sales for the last 10 years have been to cover losses. These losses have arisen due to high wages, in the main paid to garbage players.

Whereabouts is this stall Chris has set out,is it in Fargate, does it stock Peroni?

It does if i could this bloody image thing to work.

20million and loaned back to us for the rest of season would be a decent deal, Wilder gets 10mil to spend.

Who would take that deal?
