Firstly, good to here CW confirming interest in these players...

So if (big IF) these come in... where does it leave us? Looks like we will have adequate numbers in the spine of the team (CM, AMC, ST)

In my opinion to make our squad PL-ready, we need: WB's (1st team), CB (backup overlapping), backup GK?.. Maybe another 1st team CM... We must be looking at a loan options, our budget will only stretch so far...

Any ideas?

Sorry for being pedantic, but where has Wilder revealed anything in those quotes? It reads like its quotes from the Star and THEIR opinion (probably based on rumours) rather than Wilders own comments. Or have i read this wrong?

No it is interesting though isn't it... The Star have been faily definitive with their information, and to be fair Wilder was quoted "We're deep in negotiation with four or five players"... Am i wrong to assume that The Star would have checked this over with Chris before publish?

To be fair the 4/5 players mentioned by CW are never linked to those at the start of the article... who knows who those players are

Not much to add mate. Wilder is nothing if not thorough, and as he's been known to say, you can be as thorough as possible, but sometimes it still doesn't mean it's a good fit for club or player. It's relative of course, but given the casino we're now dealing in it also brings with it a few more risks, but hey ho, them's the roll of the dice and I for one am happy that we're involved at this level.

The main reason for my positivity is knowing we have a great management team guiding us. No doubt we'll look at our bench at some future point and realise that there's many tens of millions worth of talent sitting there, let alone what the value of the first eleven happens to be. A long, long way from just a few years ago, and of course it assumes we consolidate our position in this division, but why on earth would we be negative, especially as we've managed to get our foot in the door, allowing our players to compete against some of the world's finest talent.

Whoever Wilder considers good enough for this club they'll get the support they deserve. I'm already getting that frisson of excitement, and it's just a matter of weeks before we take to the stage of the Premier Division. From all accounts we're sold out, or close to, for every home game this season (when was the last time that happened?), which should provide a first rate atmosphere to push the players to show just how good they are. In short I cannot underline just how brilliant these last few years have been, and having watched us progress, with the realisation that we're now a Premier level club, we've ever opportunity to make our mark and surprise a few cynics. UTMB!!!

Ah ok, so that was the key part that you missed. The bit where Wilder mentioned that we're deep in negotiation with 4-5, rather than Wilder revealing all of his targets

I would guess that if we are deep in negotiations with 4-5 then we'll probably be looking to get 2-3 of them, whoever they are.

To be fair, i nicked the title from The Star headline, I was more referencing the article than creating my own spin...

I don't think that The Star would release the article with adjoined interview without clearance from CW first though... which could suggest he approved of the names mentioned. Could be a smoke and mirrors tactic, sure he'll surprise us with a few

I've pretty much ignored the rumours this summer, but i have listened and read most things put out by the club, Wilder has rarely mentioned any names.

Henderson has been mentioned by Wilder a lot, so i am sure that one will go through at some point. However, i don't know of many other names, perhaps with the exception of Freeman that Wilder actually mentioned by name.

The star also don't need permission from Wilder to make a direct link in the article to rumoured players, they'd just need permission to make a direct quote from him.

The Star regularly makes basic spelling, grammar and factual errors. Checking things over is not within their operating model.

Not being in the football industry or having dealt with transfers, i can speak with certainty, but having seen the deadline day 'fly on the wall'with Wilder and the Sunderland series on Netflix, as well as other things over the years, it seems that teams don't just throw all their eggs into one basket when doing transfer business, but start negotiating with a number of players and their agents in the hope of getting deals done.

So whilst you could indeed be correct that we could look daft if they all said yes, chances are we'll try to take the top priorities forward, but keep negotiations warm for others.

Yes, I agree. Perhaps I put too much emphasis into ‘deep in’. On the face of it that suggests a high level of commitment.

Anyway, I think we still need 4-5 as do you. Maybe 2-3 imminent then a bit longer for the big two? Time will tell...

That fly on the wall thing was brilliant. I was a bit down on that deadline day because we'd clearly missed out on a couple of targets that seemed close, but then I saw the doc and realised we'd just been fucked over by poor players and their loathsome agents. Suddenly I felt a lot more positive.
