I saw Tongy's red on C5. To be fair to Appleton he was highly rated as an innovative coach and youth team manager. Credit to Oxford too for sticking with him after an inauspicious start.

I find the black/white player/manager argument both tedious and patronising. (Not you, Loughboro - just sayin') Did Paul Ince become a manager because he was black? Did he get sacked because he was crap? As for Clark Carlisle it was 'Doesn't he speak well? (he doesn't) And he's a footballer! And he's black! (About as black as me!) Utterly patronising.

Reading about Michael Appleton, it does seem as if he's got credentials - he's just been employed by some flaky owners. Maybe he'll pass Adkins going the other way next May?
