So a second string striker will score one in 4. I'll have that thanks. As for one of the worst strikers ever to pull a blades shirt on, I'm sorry but that is utter shit. Marcus Bent MK2 James Beattie mark 2, Cofie, James Thomas, Richard Cadet, Billy Sharp just off the top of my head have worse returns than Porter last season.
If you are going to lambast the bloke at least make it sensible.

Especially when the second string striker has to play in 4 or 5 matches to get a whole game in. ;)

ShockingBadBuy seeing as you asked...being as stats, modelling and data analysis forms part of my job I started digging into Porter's performances last season. In 2013/14 he managed 11 goals in 2,132 minutes on the pitch: 1 goal every 190 mins. There's a breakdown in the attached doc if you're bored :)

In addition, before last season Porter had managed 1 goal as a substitute so his "super sub" tag has been earned relatively recently.

Its a very popular answer because NC has earned the trust and people recognise that.

Davies has already proven his worth.

Basham is a championship player, and a good one. Butler is a player of the year and club captain. These are shrewd and planned signings.

Sssh.. You can't say stuff like that on here ;)

I can only assume it's pre season boredom but some of the bluster is ridiculous. We have made signings and thus far the manager has proven he can do shrewd business and take what was a relegation squad to the edge of the play offs in half a season.

Surely even the most jaded cynic would say that's not a bad effort. There is so much time still to go and many contracts of players running out end of June so why the uproar when we give our leading scorer a new contract probably on less money?

I have been one of those cynics with good reason in the past but I can see the manager is doing the right things. Given time he will get the strikers we need. He hasn't let us down yet has he?

God i need to calm down. I've liked two of your posts today

Great post. So a goal every 2.1 games. That's not bad. If a premiership striker has 1 in 2 that's a good return.

One thing I did notice on your spreadsheet is that he stopped playing 90mins around January. This coincided with the signing of Scougall who enabled Baxter to play further forward.

NC knows that Porter isn't the first choice striker and has/is addressed/addressing that issue.

If you were Paul Walker, with a freedom to ask what you wanted to,wouldn't you have asked about the rumours of Ched returning ?
The seemingly lack of talk of signing an experienced striker, and resigning Porter, smells of undercover dealings that is taboo talk officially at the club,I can see Ched and/or Sharpe coming back....just sayin'..
;)

Not sure he has got freedom to ask what he wants to. Im sure the relationship between SUFC and the BBC will have had some clearly defined guidelines put in place after the last time they started investigating the whole Ched affair.

Looking through my " Sheffield United F.C..( official calendar 2014 ) at the photographs of the expected heroes of last season, (This month its Darryl Westlake, insert Marcus Williams) and comparing it to the team that finish the season, I'm inclined to keep me gob shut until at least Christmas...
