What’s the current prison sentence for stabbing someone in the eye and shoving a whistle right up their arris?🤬

Why was he allowed to referee that game? He’s from Manchester

I’m from Sheffield and would happily referee at the sty every other week.

cold light of day now.
Mousse was offside, and would probably have been given so last year
Ref got himself into a bad position, but that’s not down to his place of birth, just a bad piece of spacial awareness

It’s not VAR that’s at fault, it’s the rules that run football. The ball didn’t touch the ref, therefore there is no room for VAR to overrule.
Part of Mousse is in front of their player, therefore it is offside.

it’s the rules that need changing to support the new technology

Mousse wouldn't have been given offside last year you say you'd referee a match in Sheffield sorry but it opens a can of worms

2 endorse technology yeah right it's ruining football it's so bias a question how long do you take play back look at uniteds it was many phases as was wolves goal yet Liverpool had a offside or foul can't remember in the build up play and the goal was given.

Technology is not there for offside the line is subjective and the frames are not in time when the ball leaves the players foot.

In the Liverpool game it was a van Dijk handball, but the ref (presumably via VAR) said it was too far back to be relevant.

That must be a new rule because at Spurs, Lunny was very slightly offside about 20 seconds before Didzy scored in a different phase of play entirely and that was relevant.

Theres law of the game and then there is fair play. MOTD called it right fair play should have come into it and the referee stop the game. He didnt, he made a mistake.

So flip it round the referee didnt interfere according to the law, VAR and the referree so its Flecks fault for outstretching a leg and mis-controlling the ball ending up in passing it to Man City to score.

Did Fleck get the assist ?

If the referee wasnt there Fleck would have trapped the ball and played it forward.

Kavanagh was the VAR ref who ruled out Pukkis goal on Saturday. He will be probably be patted on the back by Mike Riley for having the balls to give two ridiculous decisions in favour of the big clubs in two days.

In fairness he's been embarrassed by
the rules the Premier League have set him. The richest league in the world is currently a complete laughing stock
I agree, and the name you have just mentioned is the biggest problem of all Mike Riley utter useless bastard as a ref and in control over VAR. Even some of the City fans were shouting for him to fuck off!!

Think some are being harsh on the ref tbf.

They're there to uphold the laws of the game and he did that. He also allowed play to continue a number of times when other refs would have fallen for their players going down or throwing their arms around.

It's the laws that need changing.

I'd like to see the offside rule changed to daylight between players. In open play no assistant can see a toe offside but that's fine if a goal doesn't immediately ensue.

Why should we have effectively different offside interpretations for different situations.

Also the ball hitting the ref sketchy too. If a through ball clips the ref and the player is through on goal it's likely the ref will stop play. Even if the position would likely have been the same if it hadnt clipped him.

Therefore it seems odd that the ref blocking players and causing unfair advantage is still allowed.

The lawmakers havent helped officials for years imho.

The like for your first sentence, exceedingly humorous, in an almost clandestine way.
Regards VAR, I must disagree. I'm no electronics expert but in an earlier part of life worked alongside tracking, positioning electronic equipment using there calculations and readouts to complete my side of the operation. The way I view it the minimum requirement is a tracking camera which runs parallel with the pitch, goal to goal and is calibrated at exactly 90degrees with the ball following it up and down the pitch as play goes on. I would suspect the ball would need a tracking devise in or on it but that doesn't seem beyond possibility. g
The off side rule reverted back to attacker being behind the defender, as against level at present, I feel would eliminate many contemptuous decisions. Daylight between players is relatively easy to see, using the abdomen as the guide, appendages ignored. Simples.
Why? Oh why? don't they leave the game alone these Rule/Law makers could it be justification of their obscene salaries or agendas where they screw all except a hand full of clubs who's glory they bask in. Bum holes.

me reffing at the sty was said very tongue in cheek mate🤪

we don’t know whether or not he would have been given off side, but if you look at the still on another thread, Lino is about 2yds behind play which would give him a perspective of offside.... possibly.

The rules of the game dictate that the ref should apply the laws within the spirit of the game. So while the rule is “if it touches the ref”, the ref has every right to use that rule even though it doesn’t touch him, because in the spirit of the game it is the same end result as if it touched him.

Therefore it is bad refereeing and VAR can’t overturn that.

Makes me laugh when a referee will quite happily blow the whistle for a player who has been hit on the head with a ball (isn't that part of football? Or does the ball transform into pure granite when you're not actively trying to head it?) but they assist a goal and they won't blow the whistle.

When I say "makes me laugh" I actually mean "sends me spiralling into an almost homicidal rage".

Warning: imminent rant.

Now the busy Christmas and New Year period is over, and the emotion has died down a bit. I’ve had a chance to look at this frame by frame on a 50 inch 4k TV, MOTD recording.

Here’s my conclusion; Chris Kavanagh is a lying cheating kunt who deliberately gave Man City an advantage.

Looking at the incident with as much neutrality as possible this is what happened.

  • SU player 1 passes to SU player 2, the ref is moving in a direction that will intercept the ball.
  • The ref has 3 choices; step back, stand still, continue the movement in the hope that he will be clear before the ball reaches SU player 2.
  • The ref chooses option 3 and gets it wrong (genuine mistake) this causes SU player 2 to make an awkward toe-poke between the ref legs.
  • At this point the ref knows that he has not touched the ball so VAR (which is only interested in the letter of the law and not the spirit of the game) cannot help him. He moves his head to his left, looking at the ball, and puts the whistle to his lips.
  • So far the ref has made a mistake but has done nothing deliberately wrong.
  • The ref sees the ball go to MC player 1, he sees MC player 1 make a pass to MC player 2, his head follows the path of the ball from MC player 1 to MC player 2.
  • At this point the ref knows he has impeded SU player 2 and given the advantage to MC, he could blow at this point but does nothing.
  • The ref sees MC player 2 receive and control the pass and has a clear attempt on goal, he could blow at this point but removes the whistle from his mouth and waves play on.
This is a professional referee at the highest level with plenty of time to make a decision, I simply cannot accept that his decision was anything other than to deliberately give Man City a chance on goal. I will not make a blind stab at why he made this decision, I’m just 100% he did not make a mistake, he knew MC had the advantage, he knew he had given it to them and he played on.

I know this doesn’t make much difference in the grand scheme of things as I assume CWAK had this down as a probable loss. I also know its history now and I’m being a bit of a dick commenting on an old thread, but a just can’t let this go. It’s the Premier League FFS and matches are being decided on the decision of a pile of wank like Kavanagh, Fleck should have kicked him in the bollocks hard enough to lift him 6ft off the ground.

Rant over.

It's a hard pill to swallow but he's only human, he played to the rules (albeit a mistake IMO) but we move on. UTB.

He's in charge of VAR for Friday so may try to nutmeg a tv screen.

Referee is Michael Oliver who was the first this season to review an incident on the pitch side monitor at Palace on Sunday. Be interesting to see if he does it in the Premier League or if Mike Riley is still banning them.

I take back nothing from my previous post, a lying cheating kunt who makes the right decision for once is still a lying cheating kunt.

This twat should be made to referee in pub Sunday league, because them lads know how to sort out a wanker.
