Chris Basham testimonial

Still a few weeks yet, wouldn't be surprised if the ticket sales got a big boost a few days before the game.

Even so, isn't 10,000 just over half of the current available tickets (South and John St stand) anyway.

Sadly the timing of this & Wilder & the Roysl Oak guy - Steve Bracknell - looks like now being terribly timed. With our capitulation & it being the day after the regular season games finish ….. i can see the attendance now being a lot lower than first thought. No one is in the mood for a celebration - regardless of the fantastic charity it is for. Nothing that can be done as I am sure that the dates are fixed now.

I still plan to go - and encourage as many others to despite us all feeling a bit shit at the moment.

I get that people are disappointed with the last few weeks and might not want to go to the Charity Match now.

This match should have been a sell out within weeks of it being announced, CW said in one of his interviews that he wanted 30,000 people there and I hope that can happen.

I understand if people have other plans that day or can't attend for other reasons, but I hope that as many people attend as possible, Basham sentiment aside it is for a very good cause.

Tickets are very cheap to come and watch some proper United players and legends play 1 last match at BDTBL.

If folk aren't going to this because of recent results that's shite. Not only is it for charity, it's for Bash, JOC and a chance to give a decent send off to Billy, Didzy, all of them and I'm sure a tribute to George. If you're sulking, sack off the Blackburn match not this.

I know several people who arnt going now due to the shit fest going on. Id urge anyone to not let this group of bottle merchants stop you going to give a great send off to a truely great guy and team and a wonderful charity. We really need to get behind this game
Can you call those people not going the actual bottle jobs. I can't believe what you are saying is actually true because if it is it's truly pathetic toys out the pram behaviour

Thanks

Dont think the timing is great (us being in the playoffs probably that following week) and a few legends not being able to play for the same reason but then pre season might have stopped players participating too?

Testimonials/Benefit matches at the Lane always seem to be poorly attended.

Recall Dane Whitehouse/Simon Tracey's in recent years not being great crowds considering the service they each gave. Going further back, Paul Stancliffe (Malmo I think) and Colin Morris (v SWFC) had pitiful crowds. I knew Colin and he was disappointed that we only got a few thousand I think (certainly less than 10) for his game.

Tony Currie's got more with some real stars/ex Blades legends (Best/Woodward etc) but even that was a long way from full.

Sometimes United fans get really defensive when (Simon Jordan did it recently) say we are nowhere near a big of a club (fanbase wise) compared to a Leeds for instance but if this was a Leeds player who'd played 10+ years for them with distinction, they'd sell out easily in my opinion.

It's really disappointing that Bash who gave so much and also made sure charity benefits will have a half empty ground (15-16k might be a push really) but United have never been able to get big crowds to these - so when people say give them a testimonial, I alway think it's a bit pointless as hardly anyone goes. It's really annoying when the tickets are so cheap and the cause is a fantastic one.

I hope we get to see Didz grace the pitch one last time. In fact, can we get him in for Friday? What a player!!

I was late jumping on for my ticket and not much left on the South Stand now, so going to wait until they open the Kop (that is, if ticket sales force it!)

As I recall Morris got 3000ish and Currie 17000ish. I think the Currie one was quite a bit higher than any league attendance that season (86-7 , the only postwar season our average was below 10,000)

Correction. We had about 20,000 for the next to last home game in 86-7 v Derby. They were going for promotion and a majority were Derby fans. I think the next highest was 12,000 ish..

The timing of this is absolutely terrible, but I'm still going to make an effort. Not even particularly for Bash, but to see a lot of that group back together who gave me the best times I've seen at United, and were it not for COVID, probably times that would never be matched.

Him and Billy will depend on the League 2 play offs. But with Notts County home to Donny on the last day of the season the day before, hopefully one of them will have a sore head from going up automatic

The timing is not an issue for us. Got our tickets, got accom sorted and, as you refer to, to see that group together again is what its all about for us.

I was all for this when it got announced, thought it was great.

The more that has been announced, the pantomime of steve bracknell etc .... it's just put me off and i've got no appetite for it.

I've got 4 tickets so i've done my bit and it's purely to see those who didn't get the right send off at their time of leaving get one!

There were loads of non-football fans in the Currie attendance.

Well the play offs will be in Jack Robinson’s schedule, but don’t worry, Wilder will definitely be picking him to play 90 minutes anyway…
Looking at the tables its unlikely we'll see many if any of these actually playing.

The following all definitely or almost defnitely will have play off fixtures coming up in May: Sharp, Norwood, Murphy, Mcgoldrick, Robinson

These are also in with a shout of playoffs or play the day before this fixture: Fleck, Scougall, Eastwood

Mcburnie and Madine both have fixtures after the 3rd May so surely won't be allowed to play

Egan, Stevens and Flynn are the only ones who will have definitely finished their seasons but all play the day before so would be suprised if their clubs would want them playing in any capacity the day after a game.

Buying tickets but not going just to donate?
Maybe just donate directly and let someone else get the ticket, it might just sell out.

I think that's a great idea. I need to get my ticket sorted and I am more than willing to buy a ticket for anyone who wants to go but maybe struggling financially.

If the club in the next week or so could set up some kind of 'Donate a Ticket' then I'm more than willing to be part of it.

It's a good cause and a great opportunity to see some of our favourite players in recent times.

I was referring more to the timing generally, at the end of the season during playoff campaigns. Most of the players who'd signed up will not actually be allowed to play due to commitments with their current clubs.

It would have made far more sense in the summer.

I remain surprised how, as a society, we continue to confuse "an essential service" with "a good cause charity".

It sounds to me like the Scanner for Weston Park is absolutely essential to improve treatment and outcomes for Cancer patients.

We shouldn't be rattling tins & playing football games to raise money for it. It should be funded out of HMRC Revenue. And, if need be, the overall taxation pot should be increased to cover it.

Charity is for sending kids with Cancer to Disneyland, not for their treatment.

The Charity-isation of absolutely essential services knows no bounds.

I respect everyone's choice if they want to donate of course. But....
