I'd take issue with the fact that Robson isn't your worst, or even second worst manager.

Adkins was by far the worst we've had.

Robson's signing, whilst a ridiculous abuse of the club's munneh, were better than Weir or Adkins'

And Robson had an excuse - he was pissed for his entire tenure.

Blackwell should have been tarred and feathered then run out of town backwards on horseback. I would have sacked him publicly, on the pitch, at half-time at Wembley. He was utterly, completely, demonstrably, indisputably, unassailably, definitely, fucking useless, appalling, dreadful.

That's the good bit.

Either you're still missing my point or I'm not explaining myself well enough; I know Blackwell only managed 1 game that season: I'm not saying he was responsible for getting us relegated. I'm saying he was responsible for building a rubbish team, that subsequently got relegated.

It's no doubt that a combination of poor managers got us relegated, that year, however in addition to poor management, it was also a poor squad.

If you think it was a great squad and should never have been in doubt for survival, then you're right, Blackwell takes no blame whatsoever.

However, if like me, you thought that it was a poor squad, which stood a good chance of relegation, then Blackwell must accept some of the heat, as it was his (fairly expensively assembled) team.

That squad consisted of the likes of Quinn, Lowton, Williamson, Ched:eek:, Maguire, Cresswell, Morgan, Monty. All had either played in the Prem or would go on to do so. You could even make a case of that squad being stronger than the one we have now although the GK department was a bit, erm, weak.

I would genuinely love to know why you thought Adkins was worse than Robson?

Come on Snooty, you're being a bit disingenuous there: This was Lowton's first season, Maguire was 17 and yet to make an appearance, and Williamson and Morgan were injured for most of the season.

We also had Simonsen in goal.

He was a fooking clown

I appreciate that doesn't differ much to Robson, but there was a different level of arrogance with Adkins.

I did allude to the GK. Lowton and Williamson featured in most of the games. Henderson, who you mentioned earlier, hardly played. That wasn't a bad squad.

Where are you getting your figures for Williamson? He only played 16 games, and didn't make a single start until the new year.
And as I said, this was Lowton's first season: the fact that he played most games proved how thin our squad was!

You say it wasn't a bad squad, but I can't agree, this is how we lined up for the first game:

S Simonsen

J Ertl
A Taylor
K Bartley
C Morgan (only played 8 games that year)

J Ward
L Britton
N Montgomery
S Quinn

C Evans
R Cresswell

Surely you're not saying that's a good side?

Don't forget, Adkins had to deal with the budget being slashed from the year before, Robson spent a record total.

Apart from Ertl and Taylor that's a pretty handy side. Even Simmo was OK to start with. We certainly shouldn't have got relegated with it.

The figures for Williamson came from the link I sent you. Lowton impressed sufficiently that season and the one after to jump straight into a Prem team and to the fringes of the England squad.

He led us to 11th place in League One. I can't even be bothered to talk about that season ever again. Nothing else needs to be said.

Our definitions of "handy side" must be way off then, as it looks like relegation fodder to me.

I'm sorry, but Lowton has never been near the England squad!

Also, the appearance figures on the link you sent me are wrong, at least for Williamson: there is no way he played 43 games; soccerbase and tranfermarkt have him down for a more believable 16 games.

That’s a really interesting side. A manager who was completely attached to crude tactics actually had some midfielders of talent, but a defence like a sieve*. How on earth did that happen?

It makes me want to mark him even lower. I can add a few more talented midfielders he misused, lost or discarded. Blackwell truly whittled all the ability out of our squad over two years.

* granted Morgan was unlucky but Bartley was raw and the other two plainly not good enough.

Robson indisputably failed. Adkins indisputably failed while taking no responsibility for the failure, perhaps couldn’t even see the full scale of his failure due to his own arrogance, and consistently churned out bullshit and contempt in an attempt to cover the failure.

Fair enough, here's how I personally make them out to be:

Warnock: 7.5/10
Robson: 1/10
Blackwell: 4/10
Speed: 5/10
Adams: 3/10
Wilson: 6.5/10
Weir: 2/10
Clough: 5.5/10
Adkins: 4/10
Wilder: 9/10

Would you have them down much different?

I'd mark Blackwell, Speed and Adkins down.

I remember being pretty underwhelmed with the signing and for two seasons remained pretty much underwhelmed.

Then Chris wilder arrived put him at the right hand side of a back three and the rest is history.

Now will remembered as a club hero if not quite legendary yet. A last minute winner against Wednesday in a couple of months could elevate him.

Your issue seems to be that Adkins didn't take any responsibility for the poor season.

How did Robson differ?

A manager thinking his players are better than they are is hardly breaking news. If Lowton plays for England, his value doubles, no wonder Dyche is keen.

I'll happily stand by my claim; Matt Lowton is nowhere near the England squad.

Plus a lot more off the bench, look again.

He would have had to have made 27 appearances as sub for your figure to be correct. He actually only made 5.

Besides, him having (your claim) 43 appearances is impossible: he was injured until January, don't you remember?

Don't forget, Adkins had to deal with the budget being slashed from the year before, Robson spent a record total.
Yeah this is part of the reason i dislike him, he failed to do a lot. He failed to recruit where we needed to and he realised a lot of things far, far too late or not at all

Part of the reason his recruitment was so poor was because his budget was poor.

I'm not excusing him as a manager, because if I remeber correctly, Wilder's was even smaller, and he did ok. I'm just saying that Adkins didn't have the same options in terms of recruitment as Robson, Blackwell or Clough had.
