A lot of the time I think "taking the positives" means trying to find a good spin for a shit game. Last night though, I think we have to look at it in the context of last season and how we've started this one.
We've been an utter shambles all ways round. Couldn't defend, couldn't buy a goal. We had players who looked dead and buried, and we were looking at the squad wondering where the spark could come from.
That's two games back to back where we've looked good coming forward. We had a quiet spell last night but some of the one touch passing was superb. Fleck bursting forward again, Ndiaye with a bit of trickery, Gibbs-White causing problems, even the crossing looks to have gone up a notch. Scored two and it should've been three or four. We're going to have to keep those standards up but in terms of attacking play we look a different class.
The goals were poor to concede. Especially the first one is a colossal error. No idea what the keeper thinks he's doing since he's not even close to getting the ball nor is the striker likely not to get a touch on it. But if we can keep the attacking play going then we've finally after a season or more got something going that we can build on. It's a foundation we can work from and playing like that we've a fair chance of outscoring a few.
Gutted by the result, especially with a late blow like that (daft foul from Billy, daft defending to follow it up) but we have to look at that performance and say it's streets ahead of even a week ago.
