Never thought I would not go to such a big local derby One of the worst squads I seen in 60 years

Okay, here's a few things bigger than a 'derby' with the Spireshites:

Protozoa
An electron
The rivalry between Kettering Town and FC Vladivostok
Derek Geary
Che Adams IQ
A fleas arsehole

I live I chez amongst many spireites fans and know a couple of people quite high up in the community trust there. The problem the have is the dine on past glories for far too long. I saw the guy I know who works in the community trust the other day post on fb about a 20th anniversary fa cup run dinner. Its been their one success in the last quarter of a century and the don't shut up about it. They concentrate too much on living on past glories and not enough on thinking about the future coupled with buying 4th rate players. I have no grudge against town at all but the need some quality.

You could build a pretty good side out of former Chesterfield players who have been flogged off since Dave Allen stopped bankrolling the club and decided he wanted his money back. It would include:

Liam Cooper (Leeds)
Sam Clucas (Hull)
Tendayi Darikwa (Burnley)
Gary Roberts (Portsmouth)
Eoin Doyle (Portsmouth)
Jay O'Shea (Blades)
Sam Morsy (Wigan)

All those players have been replaced by cheap crap, but it's hard to feel sorry for most of Chesterfield's fans. They never learned that it's a good idea to be nice to people on the way up because you will meet them again on the way down. Some of them still seem to be under the illusion that United supporters consider them as rivals when the truth is that most of us just don't think about them at all.

------------------Lee

Darikwa---Cooper-Evatt--Jones

-----------Ryan-----Morsy

Ariyibi---------O'Shea-------Clucas

------------------Doyle

Likes of Herd, Roberts and Evans on the bench would be a very good team for this level.

That's because you're not from Chesterfield. It's big for them, not us.
It's not even a derby.

I'm fucking sick of all this "local derby" horseshit. Our derby match is against the S6 lot. That's it. Not Rotherham, Barnsley, Leeds, or any of the other Yorkshire clubs, and certainly not against Chesterfield. In my mind it's just another game against a farty little club against a side we should leave trailing in our wake, with any luck. And if any of their fans read this forum, they can go and fuck themselves, the deluded tripehounds.

I've always quite liked Chesterfield and when I was younger I used to go and watch them at Saltergate when the Blades were playing away (being too young to go to away games on my own). I think it's quite sad that they don't like us, especially given that the relationship between the two clubs has been good in the past, playing our reserve games at their ground, donating our floodlights to them along with many of our ex-players joining them, Badger, Fenoughty......er ahem...... Evans.

My mate at work is a chessy fan and we were saying the same thing, that you can't expect to compete when you virtually sell your whole squad that got you promoted and replace them with worse players.

I'm similar in that I used to watch them as a 12-15 year old as I played for them and got free tickets, if they were at home and Blades weren't I invariably went. The fans are very bitter about us and use how big we are as a way to bash us for being down in league 1. When I used to explain that we're not that fussed about them they didn't get it. I have lots of friends who are fans but they are a weird lot.

Must be the neighbouring big city/big club inferiority complex. I can understand their rivalry with Mansfield but not us.

I have never forgiven or will i ever forgive Chesterfield for not only beating us twice, but kicking us to death in the 88/89 promotion season,i think it was Bob Booker who had his sock sliced in 2,minutes into the game at Saltergate, lucky to escape serious injury was Sir Bob,they even got Gentleman Stan the Man sent off at the Lane.

And dont get me started on Alan Birch,a little **** of the highest order.

Not sure I agree. While S6 is THE derby for me, I do still view the dirties, dingles, toytowners and even Donny as a derby too just not as big.

Struggle to see it outside of Yorkshire clubs mind although I do know geography says Chezzy is closer than most

As I have mentioned before, I grew up a Chesterfield fan and we never imagined we would ever get to play against big clubs like the Blades and Pigs. The only way this would ever happen was if the Sheffield teams dropped to our level, so everyone was dead excited when it happened.

Unfortunately this led some Spireites to believe that the Blades are their rivals but before that it was always Mansfield, as it will be again next season. Soon their so-called rivalry with us will be forgotten, as they cross swords with Crewe, Hartlepool & Lincoln again, as is more traditional for old timers.

I'll not hear a word said against Alan Birch, though!

I think having friends of the other clubs turns them into Derbies.

While Dingles, Chedsterfield, Donny & Weeds would be Yorkshire derbies, I only really care about the Dingles as I had the misfortune to live in Hoyland for a few years. Dislike weeds but thankfully don't know any fans.

I have a friend who is a Gillingham fan, does that mean we need to add that to our list of Derbies? :-)

Yes, but how do you truly feel?

Ruddy fence-sitters, eh?

Give them 1000 in the lower tier and segregate it, many other teams seem to manage to be able to segregate the crowds by putting a few stewards there i am sure we could do the same.

We did this in the Premier League against Watford
Blades were above them and alongside them in the lower tier as well

Exactly, to you the Barnsley game is a derby. To me it's 'meh'. But I've had the misfortune of living in Chesterfield. There are Blades born and bred in Chesterfield and the surrounding areas, who live and work or go to school with Chesterfield fans. For them, it's a derby.

.
Me too

Don't mind being a called Blunts, it's better than just "Sheffield"

I really don't get why they hate us so much. I reckon it's down to our indifference to them and it annoys them that we couldn't care less about them if we tried.

I've got extended family in Chesterfield and sometimes call into a pub up there. Their dislike of Sheffielders is very apparent. My sister also lives up there and I know she now looks down her nose at Sheffielders which I find amazing as she was brought up here. Her two sons are the same.

It's just strange to see the dislike for us in general when I think most of us don't give them a second thought. There attitude is very much the same as Barnsley if not a little more extreme.
