I would think Anel might start at full back, with Gilchrist as cover CB and RB. Gilchrist has not played a lot of football, particularly at right back, so not convinced he is going straight in as a starter. We know that Anel has that capacity to carry the ball and get into good attacking positions.

I've seen this idea about Anel at RB twice today and have been left scratching my head. Never seen or heard of Anel playing full back. I just can't see it myself, but I could be wrong.

Agreed. Highly doubt we’ll see Anel at right back unless there is some bizarre injury crises (not completely out the realms of possibility I guess). Seems obvious that Gilchrist will start at right back until we sign another or Shackleton returns from injury, then he’ll compete with Anel for CB and Shakleton/new player for RB. He said in his interview he’s happy at RB, so I’m sure that’s something Wilder has discussed with him.

He looks ready made for the right side of a three tbh. I’ve been wanting us to ditch five at the back for three seasons but now we’re moving away from it we seem one good RWB away from having the perfect set of players for it. I wouldn’t be at all surprised/disappointed to see us go five at the back for some games against better opposition, away from home, or defending a lead. It will be great to have the tactical flexibility to switch things up after being predictable for so long. Might take a couple of months to get this new set of players able to do it seamlessly though.

Listening to Roy's moans on BladesPod, (a very man after my heart), I picture him as many things but I'd never seen him as a vigorous pigeon.

I'll give it more considered thought and get back to you.

Anel has often gone to wing back for us, during a game, after a substitution and I wouldn't see him as less capable at playing full back if needed than say Trusty who fills in at left back sometimes. But you are probably right. I was just looking at their records a bit more closely. For some reason I assumed Souttar was a more experienced/proven player than he is and would go in as a starter. But, It looks like he only had 1 full season and that was 4 years year ago. So yeah would make more sense Anel starting alongside Robinson as they have done in pre-season.
