I was at boarding school on that day and we had lost 2-0 to both Burnley and Wolves in the first two games that season. I remember celebrating in the Junior Common Room at my school when the teleprinter revealed that the Blades won 2-1 at Chelsea. In the next day I was reading the Sunday papers and the reports were saying how brilliant TC played in the match and I had discovered that highlights of the game were to be shown in "The Big match" on ITV. The problem was that my teacher at my previous school (Maud Maxfield), whose parents lived at nearby Thatcham, was going to take me out for the afternoon. I was wondering if I would be brave enough to ask her if she could let me watch "The Big Match" at her boyfriend's out instead of taking me to somewhere in Newbury (I think picnic at a park was the plan). If I did that I knew my parents would get angry with me if they find out . When she picked me up at my school, she greeted me warmly and wanted to know how I was settling down in my new school but I was quiet and awkward like Craig of Coronation Street. She knew that there was something wrong so she pulled her car to the side of a road at Newbury. She was asking things like "you dont look happy, arent the teachers treating you well? Are you being bullied?" etc. Eventually I told her that I was hoping to watch "The Big Match" on TV cos Sheffield United's win at Chelsea is being shown. She rolled her eyes but she has always known that I am a Blade fanatic so she said she will ask her boyfriend if their plans for the afternoon can be altered. I had got my wish and saw the programme at her boyfriend's house! Looking back I still feel guilty about my selfishness!
