Bill Punton was signed after we had played Norwich in the FA cup. Always looked older than his years he served the club well in his stay.

We played Norwich in the 1962 FA Cup 5th round (the floodlight pylon in the John Street/ Bramall corner was damaged by gales in the previous night) and not played them again until the 1968/69 season

Some Blades fans were surprised to see that new signing, Bill Punton (making his debut for us), looking really old. Was Woody's effort over the line before Birchenall made sure of the equaliser?

I've tried to stop the recording as the ball comes off the bar and makes contact with the floor. I reckon it was Woody's goal.
As I live in Leicester, I watch Leicester City from time to time. Alan Birchenall ('The Birch' as he's affectionately known at LCFC) often makes half-time announcements and is a great ambassador of the club.

I tried to freeze frame the bounce too! Looking at my Woody's goals and assists I realise that I had not included that as an assist by Woody. I reckon that the equaliser was late in the game and that the Green Un match report didnt state what had happened in the build up to the equaliser

such a pity our best years in football are all when photography was in the dark ages.
Theres some nice drawings in Castleton caves of our only league triumph

I remember the gales the flood light pylon on the lane side next to Cherry street was bent over like a matchstick.
Was it that long ago!
