I used to think Evans was taking the piss. You know, Billy bigtime type player, slumming it in the 2nd tier. However, i am now of the opinion that i was wrong about him. He isnt taking the piss at all, he genuinely is useless! Blackwell should try and offload him from the wage bill in January, but we all know it aint going to happen, dont we.

Thank you for this. I have not heard this take on Ched Evans before.

I like him.

Maybe instead of us getting on our forwards backs, Billy, Beattie, Hendo, Evans etc there might be a reason none of them seem to be able to find the net consistently despite doing it elsewhere.

I think its still far too early to be making any proper decisions about the lad.

He needs more fitness and time.

We've had better (much) forwards and we've had worse (much) forwards. Trouble for Chedwyn is, we've only ever had one who cost more and this, along with the oft quoted bit about him being one of the best paid players outside the Premiership mean there is extra expectation on him.

You could argue it's not his fault as he didn't set the transfer fee, but sometimes life isn't fair and whether he likes it or not, these things means he carries extra weight on his shoulders.

If he'd cost 500k or something, then he wouldn't be quite so under the microscope, but he did, and so he is.

I think it's hard to judge any half decent footballer wih us at the moment.
Perhaps that will change if/when the manager is changed.
They can't all sudenly become bad players as soon as they put a red and white shirt on.
Even Billy's netted 5 times in 4 games playing for a side that struggles to score goals and Harper has always played with good managers.
if you think that this is yet another Blackwell out post...............you're right !

I think the Chairman ought to clarify this statement about his price quoting the fee we have paid so far. Fans might be more realistic about him settling in.

I've seen enough of him. He aint very good. He just wonders around like a little lost lamb. I'm afraid this is going to be a very expensive mistake by Blackwell. With the wages he's rumored to be on, there's no way he will be going anywhere until his contract expires - well not unless we give him away and pay part of his wages too.

The fee and wages are a mute point. I bet it hasnt done much good for dressing room harmony if he's getting what he's rumored to be getting! Especially when the guy is crap.

Evans - 4 months in and no better

We are now nearly in December. He had pre season and trains as far as I am aware very day in the week; alongside internatiaonal games that others have not had. If he is not fit now then he is never going to be. As for time; I have been very disappointed with him and other than Watford at home I have not seen the guy put together any kind of consistent performance. He is not the only one performing but unfortunately due to the fee (ok in installments but still pretty sizeable) and the wages (McCabe admitted he is one of highest paid players outside Prem) I expect a lot more.

Maybe the tactics are not suiting him; maybe the manager is not suiting him but he has had a few different partners and even in the games we played it on the floor; Newcaslte and Cardiff, he has still not done nearly enough for me. I expected a lot more of him and whilst I am not writing him off I am getting frustrated with watching him week in, week out jogging around and generally not looking that interested. I can cope with a player with poor touch, shooting, control, hold up play (all these areas I am surprised how poor Evans is) but to not 'bust a gut' for the team is disappoininting. The fact he has barely lasted a full game when he has played has showed he is lacking either in performances.

I really don't agree and think you will be proven wrong. In fact his goals, assists against starts record is as good as anyone else's at the club despite him not hitting anything like top form. Once he settles in I think you will get more goals from him but as I've posted elsewhere it does seem strange that Beattie, Billy, Evans and Hendo struggle to score regularly yet away from BL they don't have a problem banging them in.

I really hope i will be proved wrong. Im a Blade and would love him \ the team to turn it around. However, as Deadbat mentions above, the guy just doesnt seem to want to know. At first it just looked like a big time charlie lazy attitude, but now its becoming clear hes actually a shite player.

I've heard the same said about quite a few forwards at the Lane recently.
All of which have done well after they have left.
In fact I heard similar comments about a certain James Beattie.

James Beattie epitomized every that went wrong with the Blades post Warnock. A big name player on massive wages (for us). He's a decent lower premiership player, of that there is no doubt, but a Championship club in transition mode should not be going for your James Beatties. Jamie Ward has had much more of an impact than James Beattie had.

Dont get me wrong, if we had stayed up that season, i would have loved James Beattie to come in then. However, as a championship club it was\is like playing russian roulette paying massive wages for big players on the decline.

How can you knock james beattie look at his record if he'd stayed we would have gone up. Worth every penny of his wages.

I thought Ched looked a lot better yesterday and it was him who helped create so much room for the impressive camara.

He was unlucky not to score when his shot hit the bar, (did it go over the line?) and it was his shot that rebounded to camara for the winner.

With a bit more luck we would have been discussing a 2-0 win with Evans getting both and how he had found his form and could go on to get 20.

fickle game this football lark!

Well I thought he didn't have a particularly bad game and put a lot of effort in.

I think the biggest shame is that Beattie and Ward weren't here at the same time.

Me and Flatulent Bob will agree with you. Don't tell Lenners though he thought he was crap.

Len has developed a dislike of Evans to rival his dislike of Warnock. From now on it will not matter how well Evans plays, Len will always regard him as rubbish!

Not true. If he starts scoring goals on a regular basis or starts putting full shifts in and being on his toes instead of his heels, I'll be delighted.
We're now 17 games into the season and none of the above have occurred.
If Henderson comes back in and Camara and Ward stay fit, he may not get many more opportunities but we'll see.

Looking at the way Billy Sharp is scoring for Donny I think we have to question the style of football we are playing. Sharp looked completely inept playing for United (as many are saying that Evans does) yet he is now scoring for fun with Donny. It seems clear that ball to feet strikers (such as Ched, Sharp, Stead, Webber, Lupoli) are going to fail in Blackwells system of lump it to the strikers. Target men such as Hulse, Henderson and Shipperley are the only one's who would fit in the current system.

Looking at the way the very talented James Harper looks poor for the Blades brings to question tactics and style of play. It's even got me thinking that Brain Howard might not actually be the waste of space he seemed and could make little impact because the ball was hoofed over his head every time.

I think that all our forwards have struggled to look good this season, but when you recieve the ball up round your head with your back to goal, even Pele would struggle to do much with it !!
All the strikers looked better in the last 3 home games, but we did play some decent football vs Cardiff, Newcastle and the first half on Saturday so it gives them a fighting chance.
The answer, clearly is to play more passing, posession football and get the ball in to the FEET of the strikers. Its not rocket science is it ??

Give it a bit of lateral thought....... we go from being a team of spirited warriors battling against the big baddies week after week to a team of highly paid big time charlies. Gone were Jags, Tonge, Stead etc and in steps James Beattie and co on massive wages with egos to match. I just felt that the balance was wrong. The transition was too much, too soon. If rumours are to be believed, BT was on 40k a week with Everton paying half. He was sold just before we kopped for the full 40k - apparantly.

I'm not saying BT is a bad player, but for me, he was the right person at the wrong time. We couldnt afford to take that kind of gamble (along with Naysmith, Hendrie, etc). We blew it and it will now take some time to repair.

Oh and Chedward is crap!

That would all be fine, but Beattie, Naysmith, Speed and Ugo (i.e. the big earners) all worked hard when in the side.

I certainly don't share this Evans hate, even if I admit he's been disappointing. I will blame the manager all day long instead.
