Ched or Roque?

What's up with Ched? Is he injured?

I've lost track.....

PS Oops. Definitely have lost track.
I see that he played on Saturday. Not that anyone would notice.

Harsh Broomhill as he was far from one of the worst players on the pitch.

Santa or Ched? Hmmm do we get to factor in the 80K a week wages?

I agree, ive had my criticisms of Chedwyn but the only time we looked like scoring in that second half was when he came on.

He's still yet to justify his transfer fee and wages as we all know, but he hasnt been our worst performer up front this season. The sad thing is he has probably been our best IMO.....doesnt say much I hasten to add.

In my defence - I wasn't there on Saturday.

A lot of strikers seem to be 'confidence players'. Maybe Ched will get a bit of luck tonight and bag a goal that will set him on his way....

It worked for Torres.

(Straw-clutching time again)

Even Roque wouldn't score goals in our team at the moment. However for 3 million someone will be getting a great bargain this season.

Just like the last 5 goals Ched has scored in the last 50 odd games was going to be the strike that gets the ball rolling.

He was on for the whole of the second half, the half in which we didn't score and didn't look like scoring until he missed an open goal in the last minute.

Have we really reached the stage where missing an open goal is considered a plus???

I acknowledge that lenners. Just because I suggested he was the only one that looked like scoring, doesnt mean I rated his performance. His performances are well below what we should expect and I dont dispute that. But the fact remains that he looked far more likely in that 45 mins than Cresswell, Ward or Bogdanovic have all season. It was a shocking miss, I dont deny it and yes he failed to score in that half but who else is scoring????

A basic observation of his performance compared with everyone else on the pitch doesnt mean I'm defending him. I'm saying others should be in for more flak in regard to Saturday's game.

As ive said to lenners, it was an observation of the all round performances of all of our forwards. I thought that despite his inability to score AGAIN on Saturday we still looked more likely than we had before he came on.....the fact that he missed a big chance would back that up because he got into a goal scoring position. He also looked busy around the box which is more than I could say for Cresswell or Ward on Saturday.

The incident you refer to doesnt make his performance any worse than the others.....they couldnt even manage a shot!

Can Roque do it at this level? Completely unproven ;)

Plus the wages for Roque would be wayyyyyyy above what Ched earns

Didn't the keeper make a save? Ched hit it straight at him but it wasn't an open goal, unless the definition has changed. 'Twas a shite shot but as Steel City said better than the other strikers had done all game.

Thanks beechblade. I think the problem (and you can understand it) is that Ched has performed so far below expectation for so long and has such a poor scoring record, that whenever he does put in a half decent performance it is simply ignored. People will then highlight any isolated incident that goes wrong.

The thing that bugs me the most about Ched is not his lack of goals (though it obviously needs to improve), it is his lack of presence at times. There are games where he will just stand about, wont run for a shorter pass and wont throw his weight about. He's a fit, strong lad and could make himself far more unpleasant to play against.

On Saturday I thought he put himself about a lot more and covered much more ground. I saw something from him that is sadly lacking most of the time.....I just thought it was much better from him despite the miss and if he could just up it another notch and get some sharpness in front of goal he might MIGHT just turn into a player!

Both strikers went to their respective clubs around the same time.....

Ched for a reported £3 million
Santa Cruz for a reported £17.5 million.

At least we won't see a loss of £14.5 million, plus approx 80k wages.

Actually Len, I thought when he and Boggy came on we looked more like scoring than any other time in thew match. Ched held up the ball well eventhough he was constantly had 2 players on him. Funny how different people see different games. Unfortunately both Cresswell and Ward were woeful.

The other thread about Ched sums it up in the title by using the word "enigma".

He looks like he has all the attributes to be a footballer. Decent size and build, strong shot (judging by the shooting in excercise BEFORE the match), sounds as thick as porridge etc. But when the game starts it all seems to go to shit.
I have a friend who supports Norwich who thought he was great (although he has a liking for A***** W*** that I find baffling) and cannot believe it when I describe some of his performances.

I have always thought there was a footballer inside waiting to come out but after nearly 18 months I think it may never happen.

and the fact the Roque's fee would be £3m up front (maybe or maybe not with add-on's) where-as Ched's was £750k

Hardly any fees are paid up front. The only strange thing about the Evans deal was that he commanded any fee at all.

I always thought that, although a little strange, the definition of an open goal was when there was just a keeper to beat. Makes no difference, he should have scored.

Except it wasn't £750k.
Have you managed to avoid the clearcut evidence from McCabe himself as well as the accounts?

I love this kind of logic. You mean apart from when we did actually score when he wasn't on the pitch?
He was as shit as he's been for the last 18 months.

I said it was a shite shot, but Ward missed a similar chance the week before, it seems to spread to more than just Ched messing shots up this season.

david carney now playing for blackpool.. another former blade goes onto greater things:rolleyes:

If Santa Cruz is on £80k a week, then it's obvious he'll only go to another PL club.

Unless Cardiff get him, with City paying 95% of his wages...
