Player Suggestion Ched Evans?

Evans always seemed to me to be a confidence player. Amongst shit players who are playing shit, he always looked shit. He looked shit at United in the Championship, for example. Among player who are playing well and when he has confidence, he looks the bollocks.

I reckon Wilder can get the best out of him again.

This decision was always going to split us down the middle. Why would wilder want that now?

Why should it split us any more than, say, the Hanson signing (who I still think is a very poor player, by the way) or the Clarke signing (who I feel has something to offer)? I really can't see why people are getting so het up about it.

Let's hope so.

The highest I'd be willing to go is 250k up front. Rising to a maximum of 500k only after a large number of goals.

The highest you'd be willing to go? It isn't your money though, and you probably have no concept, like most fans, myself included, of how much a footballer actually costs. If Wilder thinks Ched is the best bet to stick his half a million on, then I'm sold. In the modern game, it's a small gamble that could reap massive rewards. Rather than collectively shit our pants, let's wait and see.

I have a very good idea of the going rate for players. And 500k for a 28 year old who's had a quiet season, has been relegated to L2 and only has a year left on his contract is too much.

We've also spent nothing like 500k up front recently.

There's talk now that it's actually 150k + add ons, which seems far more like it.

A little bit more of a snippet, it's nowhere near 500k. This isn't gospel though as it's not a direct bit of ITK, more 3rd party.....

3rd party eh? Meh! So what kind of sauce is this supposed to be? If it ain't full on HP then it's not worth mentioning :D

Chesterfield got relegated today, he hasn't played in their last few games, but unlikely he'll fancy playing in league two and they'll need the money and we need another striker....

The football season will end soon, so let the summer transfer speculation begin

;)

Never happen.

Hardly anyone goes on forums or radio stations.
We heard all this "split down the middle" after signing Marlon King.
According to social media we had loads handing their season tickets back and boycotting matches.
But what happened in reality? ........ For Kings debut the gate went up not down.
There was no jeers, only cheering when King was introduced to the crowd.

Wait until the Chezzie game and let's see with our own eyes how split the fan base is on this signing.
Think you'll be surprised when the whole ground shows their appreciation chanting Cheds name. Let's see what happens. Wilder seems to know what he's doing, he has the Midas touch.

Why would you be singing for Ched on Sunday. This season has nothing to do with him and you're taking it away from the guys who do deserve it. Madness

Jordan Slew is an innocent man and I wouldn't want him back.

If it is purely fitness that is a problem with Evans then fair enough, a full pre-season may sort that. But what evidence is there that he will do anything at Championship level?

He may just be signed as a back up; bit of pace, bit of strength, caused us problems early in the season. But not scored many goals at all since August.

I'll be delighted to be proved wrong.

Slew was just guilty of one of the worst career moves in Blades history.

Agents eh o_O

That's a bit like saying what evidence was there that Harry Maguire could do a job in the Championship when we sold him? Same as what evidence is there that Fleck might cope with the Championship next season?

The answer is
When a player is head and shoulders above league 1 standard then it's a reasonable conclusion to think that player will be good enough for the Championship. When Ched was last in league 1 you felt he would score every game. He scored 29 league goals even though he was injured missing games, also that season he must have hit the woodwork about 15 times.

He was so outstanding in his final 6 months he was turning us into a 1 man team and I've rarely seen any player able to do that over the decades supporting the Blades. He may end up being poor for us but if it's only a few £100K then I suppose it's worth the risk and I'm sure Wilder will believe he can get the best out of Ched.

Well Harry Maguire has not had any Championship playing time, Ched had plenty and never pulled any trees up. In fact until that first season in League One he was a huge waste of £3 million in my opinion.

Of course something clicked in League One and with a team miles better that the majority of the division he had a field day. No doubt he was outstanding that season. Unstoppable.

After 4/5 years out of football he came back into a poor Chesterfield side and struggled.

But I agree with your point; if it is only £100k or so it is more than worth the risk if he can come close to stepping up that League One form to the Championship.

If we're paying half a million plus add ons, is it worth the risk when we could potentially take a different player that has bagged 20 odd goals in League One recently? Maybe less of a risk?

I appreciate you might not like it (and actually agree with you about the players this season quote) but the kop will sing "super, super ched" - think the only question is how long it will take them.

Sometimes players form could be down to management and what they're asked to do. I mean Billy Sharp was gash when he came back after relegation from the Prem but I don't think it was his fault, maybe Ched could be in the same boat. Who knows eh...

Why is our chairman so pathologically stupid over this average striker who isn't even making the cut in a side facing relegation ?
He ought to hate Evans for costing us promotion in 2012 , by his unguarded promiscuous behaviour , whether rapist or not.
And Evans is physically crocked now anyway , with a recurring ankle injury , which has seen him unable to play for Chesterfield , as they battled to escape relegation.
Forget the “fit & proper” test for a Club owner .........it should be an IQ test.

Pretty much every away day and many many home games, some bunch of lads have been singing about Ched Evans.. for the last five years or so... why would Sunday be diffferent ... if you've not heard songs about Evans during this time, I'm amazed..

I agree about the team though, they should be celebrated, and I'm sure the club didn't want this news out there now for the very same reason.

James Robertson Justice , Hatie Jaques , Babs Windsor were seen leaving the building this afternoon .

Evans asked if he was ok and fit .

The reply was Carry On Ched starring Sid James as Ched Evans .:D:)

Another angle ...........what does signing Ched say about our budget for strikers to keep us in the Championship next season ?

You can tell me Fleck was a free transfer etc , but shouldn't we acquire at least one goalscorer who's proven at the next level and still young enough as opposed to "over 30 , slowing down and on his way down" (even if he can still bag 30 in L1) ?

Someone's walking out.
