Now here's a man who divides opinion.
Over the last few games, although he has not scored (and yes i understand that is what we bought him for), I think he has played quite well especially yesterday. Lots of good touches and awareness of other peoples movement.
Could he develop in to a player like jon stead, who most fans didn't want to leave. He also seems to be developing a partnership with Cresswell.

I think i would rather have Ched cheese on pitch rather than that useless piece of ****.

I think that's ridiculously harsh. He was brilliant for us in the Premiership.

He might not have had the best of times after that, but to call him useless is crazy.

EDIT: Never mind, you were on about Evans. I still think it's harsh, though.

agree. always been a big fan of stead, and i see a lot of similarities with ched. However, i do think that Ched could develop into a very good player. No, not as good as berbatov, but a very similar player. Ched will become a player who strikers will want to play WITH. I'm not sure its just a coincidence that cresswell has been scoring recently whilst playing with him.

I agree with you Boo. He was very impressive against QPR in his general play. he has a good touch, is stronger than what he looks and wins a fair few headers. He can hold the ball up and is very good at bringing other people into play.

The guy is playing well but needs a goal. However I feel this will come. Anyone remember Henderson couldn't hit a barn door at the start of the season? People were getting on his back and calling him a donkey. I remember saying the same things. He is close to scoring and when he does he won't stop. We all know the story with big Darius and I think it will be the same with Ched.

With what we have seen recently would anyone give any credence to the fact that maybe Ched wasn't fully fit for the first few months of the season?

It might be a convenient excuse but he just seems to be doing more and more in each game. At the start of the season he did look lazy and if he was struggling to get into the matches although obviously I thought he showed touches that showed there was more to come. Maybe he struggled to get into the pace, maybe he thought he was too good for this league (unlikely) but he didn't look fully fit.

I'd be interested in others thoughts on this.

Ched has come on a lot in the last few weeks and is contributing to our link up play a lot more. Once he gets his goal I think he will get a few more but he has a long way to go until he can be worthy of mention in the same sentence as Jon Stead.

Stead was a quality player and I can't understand why some managers don't rate him. In a good team he will score 15 a season minimum. But look where he's been - Huddersfield (Lower leagues), Blackburn (struggling in the PL), Sunderland (struggling in the PL), Blades (struggling in the PL), Ipswich (crap). If he went to a good club playing well he would score loads.

You can't keep making excuses when the common factor is the player himself. He's done virtually the same wherever he's gone, started like a house on fire, dropped out of the 1st team, then moved on.

My guess as to why no good team will touch Stead is because:

(a) he has a history of starting well and then tailing off (United, Blackburn); and

(b) he is still most remembered for his disastrous spell at Sunderland: Andy Gray has the same problem. The common perception is he isn't very good.

These things combined make him unattractive for a PL team.

Im sorry I dont agree with either of the above two posts. The use of our eyes told us he was a good player when he played for us. He was our only goal threat after Hulse's injury.

I understand where youre coming from Revolution but by your logic that makes Marcus Bent a good striker - since about 5 PL clubs have signed him in the past. Contrasting views.....

But how many did he score in the 07/08 season ? As with plenty of others, he didn't flourish under Robbo but as myself and Revolution have said, it's been the story of his career, starts well then fades away.

Hmmm....

In a team low on confidence with a piss poor manager and where all the scoring opportunities were falling to Beattie. Nobody else was scoring either as you correctly pointed out.

He is (or was I suppose). He's contributed more to his clubs than Stead has.
