Ched Evans interview

Couple of thoughts on Ched the footballer, which annoyingly is the part of him that often gets overlooked.

When we had Ched in the championship the first time he was poor, or at best bang average. He was also injured a lot.
We spent a lot of money on him at the time and he looked like a huge waste. Then he was sensational in league 1 and looked
a totally different player. I was gutted we lost him at the time and it totally ruined our Promotion.

Since his return to Pro-football, he started brightly in league 1 with Chesterfield, then again lost form, and got injured.
He looked poor at the end of the season and didn't score a goal for months.

I was annoyed we re-signed him as he looked like a totally different player than we lost the first time and I felt and still feel
that there were better options out there, especially as we already had Billy and Clarke who are similar players and of a similar stage
of their career.

This season so far has proved to me that he wasn't a good signing. He hasn't had a decent season in the championship
for over 10 years which was when he was at Norwich. He seems very injury prone still, and maybe his body is not up to the demands of the job anymore?

I believe in second chances and would be over the moon if he came good, but I just can't believe it will happen. He seems a shadow
of his former self.

As for Ched the human being, whether he did or didn't commit rape is something none of us will never know, regardless of both the original verdit and subsequent acquittal, but legally he is free to continue
working as a pro footballer, for me though I don't think he is good enough for the blades anymore.

I find it odd that so many fans forget how he was for us the last time he played for us in the Championship and only remember his blistering form in League 1. It's entirely possible that his level is League 1, regardless of everything that has happened off the pitch. It would be really good if he could recapture even a portion of his form from that season, we could really do with it right now, but I don't think people should be entirely surprised if he can't.

As a very wise man once told me, the constraints, or demands, of writing for a living are completely different to writing on the forum.

It seems the constraints, or demands, of writing for a living turn some people into pompous twats.

This, Daniel, is the problem. Continuing to ask me to validate your cynicism won't inform you, all it will do is heighten your already feeble attempts at journalistic zeal. Perhaps you should start with ensuring that any piece about local football grounds has an accompanying photo of said ground, rather than one of an unrelated ground. You'd think that a local 'journalist', with supposedly local knowledge, would ensure this would never happen. Ring a bell Dan?

Too right. It’d never happen in the NYT would it? You know that as well as I do... literally, I suspect

Clearly, for yourself and local hack Danny04, you're puzzled. Here's a little insight, the constraints, or demands, of writing for a living are completely different to writing on the forum.

It's a pity disbelief caused you to question the truth of what I wrote.

I'm just saying, to me it seems more likely that you're telling porkies rather than being paid to work for those publications.

Here's the thing disbeliever.....I won't share my name on the forum, it happened once and I regretted it. Given your reluctance to take me at my word, when I'm mobile (currently I'm unable to walk far (no, that's not a fib/lie either, if you're unsure ask Sean Thornton, unless you consider him a liar too), which should be in a couple of months at most, I'll provide an example for Sean to see and he can then act as a conduit by which to appease your noseyness. I suspect your persistence has it's roots elsewhere, but that's your neurosis and I've no interest in that.

I won't ask for an apology, as I suspect this wouldn't occur to you anyway.

Here he comes

I will happily apologise if my suspicions are proven to be false.

:) indulge me just once more, big time - why do you seek an apology from Chali 2na? Just curious. Cheers

Due to my age I've done things, been places, and met various people, some special, others far from special. I lived through a period where it was possible to experience things that now have the patina of glamour, adventure, or what might loosely be termed showbiz royalty. I was fortunate. I lived with someone who helped establish Tamla-Motown in the UK plus they had an interest in what was then contemporary Black American music as well as the arts in general, as well as being pre-eminent in matters relating to cinematic history, which syncs nicely into the fact that he was responsible for Sheffield having an arthouse cinema, which by osmosis grew into The Showroom. Out of this grew my interest in writing and from being a non-paid freelance I slowly attained paid status.

What has any of this to do with why you and Chali seem to question my life's experience as a journalist you'll probably ask? One thing I've found is that some people seem overly cynical when someone tells them they've done this, that, or whatever with their lives. I've no idea why this cynicism chooses to display itself, but it does.

Danny I've met people that you might hold in legendary status, but as far as I was concerned they were far from legendary, they just happened to be people whose company I valued and I respected their need for discretion. The fact that I mentioned some of the publications I wrote for seems to have tweaked an unpleasant nerve-end with both of you. It's as if someone who contributes to this forum couldn't have experienced life outside of your apparently limited universe, therefore you adopt a tone not intended to be anything other than attritional and designed to be confrontational. I don't have to justify or validate myself to anyone Danny, including you or Chali. As I wrote to Chali, when I'm more mobile I'll meet with Sean Thornton and show him an example of the work I used to get paid for. Whatever you think of Sean, he's decent and not prone to telling fibs so I'll let Chali know, and he, and you, can ask Sean if, what you suggest are lies, are actually true.

The fact that I'm writing this is because you don't know me, therefore your idle curiosity reflects your disbelieving nature. As for an apology, after being called a liar wouldn't you expect an apology? Maybe not, but I would hope something sincere would be forthcoming. Thing is, we're all different, we all have different standards, so my expectations are low to no-existent where this is concerned. Hope that provides you with at least some background.

When I lived in London I can't tell you how many times I had the following conversation...

Me: Fancy a pint tonight?

Highbury_Blade : Can't tonight, Thursday is anal sex night.

Me: But it's Monday.

At least you received a reply. On two separate occasions I have been accused by HB of offering fake news, twice I offered a reasonable explanation why this wasn't the case and asked for a sensible reply. On both occasions silence seemed to be the best HB could offer me, that was after accusing me of something I hadn't done. He's beginning to attain similar status to David Irving, all mouth and no trousers.

No one accused you of lying. Not in my ‘apparently limited universe’ anyway

While we're at it can we just take a moment to remember what a total cunt Charlie Webster was and is.

Although you could easily be forgiven for completely forgetting who she is....
Yeh but Charlie Webster is a gorgeous cunt !

This subject won't go away will it ?
I've got to say I've got some real reservations about why ched decided to dredge all this up again
After the Interview Jim white let it be known that ched had said hed like to come in the studio at some point and do a live show
I got the impression that ched is once again looking out for ched and Sheffield United are again a secondary consideration to this selfish man .if he's been banging the goals in or even resembling a championship standard footballer we wouldn't have heard a peep out of him but it seems he's thinking about life after football now

The time of your post speaks volumes. Why not go on the Daily Mail website and post in the 'Comments'? Some are criticising St. Jess of Ennis - can't let that pass, can we?
HAhah it sounds like your the one who should be commenting there mate .

And no I won’t as she is probably Sheffield’s greatest ever athelete and a blade

Danny04 and Chali 2na, I can certainly vouch for itsinyerblood as a man who has lived a very interesting life and that's just the relatively small bit I know about in the scheme of things. I was aware of him through a mutual interest for a long time before we first spoke, many years ago, before meeting up a long time later.

One thing he's not is a bullshitter. Whatever you think my word is worth, you can have it on that.

In that case, I owe itsinyerblood an apology:

It seems I was wrong, I'm more than willing to take Sean Thornton at his word, I take back what I said.
