I think you've hit the nail squarely on the head there, but you can't blame him for getting a better financial deal for himself, while his stock was at its highest. I expect he'll slowly slip back down the football pyramid, but as with Slew, from a purely materialistic perspective, their agents did the right thing.

You all must have missed his unprovoked Twitter attack on our club following his departure, inclusive of (but not limited to) encouraging Birmingham City fans to abuse ours, retweeting messages about our neighbours and Birmingham being bigger than us.. etc etc.

The strange thing is that I didn't see anybody giving Che any grief for leaving. It was completely random and was a complete display of ignorance and immaturity. I remember arguing a bit with Ricky in the summer about whether or not we should sell him, Ricky was right and I'm glad we did.

Truth be told I was never a fan of the lad whilst he was here, I rated his raw ability and thought he could develop into a very good player. But I still remember when he was offered his new contract, instead of being humble and thanking everyone it was - "I deserve it, I've earned it," couple this with the numerous reports of his poor attitude around Sheffield at weekends, dropping out of match day squads due to his poor attitude more than once. I don't wish him well. He showed us a lack of respect.

Because it's always the case.

In the bizarre world of football forums ex players are to be despised for leaving, if it's their choice, or lauded to the rafters, if it's the clubs choice. Praised and debased in equal measure if its a mutual agreement.
This is magnified ten fold if they make any mention of "stepping up" if they join a new club (you know like every player does in every first interview). The bile will be enough to cause a tsunami should anyone return and celebrate scoring against us.

and I agree with that except the excuse given at the time was it was to further his international career. I think we'd all have a lot more respect for people in general if we were told the truth, whether it was; 'I'm securing my family's and my future', 'we're selling him because it's an offer too good to refuse,' or simply 'I've tried for 3 years to get United promoted and I can't do it on my own.'

But the 'excuse' still stands. He has a far better chance of playing for his country playing for a top championship team than he does for a then mid-table league one side.

I wasn't aware of what's happening on twitter by design. I understand why some like it, but to me, it serves no purpose therefore I pay no attention.

As for his 'off-field incidents', I understand why that might irk some but I would remind you and others that he's a young lad before he's a footballer, and young lads make mistakes.

I'm not asking for a Che statue in the car park I'm just bemused by the level of 'hate' he's received.

If he says anything other than something bland, like 'I can't get the side promoted on my own' he'd still get criticised. Some people will see it as a betrayal. Even though a club (not the supporters) has no loyalty at all to players or managers, some people expect players born and raised hundreds of miles from Sheffield and with no connection to the Blades to love the club as much as we do.
