Che Adams

When we played MKD at MKD earlier this season, Che was brought on with about 10 minutes to go and he changed the game, got the ball, ran straight towards goal, fired shots, one just going over. If he had been on the pitch from kick off I think we would have won

Didn't really change the game then

He did the same at home to Fleetwood, but the end product was lacking a bit and he's also started a couple of times and been ineffective (not that others haven't of course) but he's got plenty of time yet to learn his trade, we have to trust the management who see him day in day out, as with Diego ;)

Personally I like the look at him, but I reckon he lacks the experience to hold down a first team place right now. Seen him come on a few times and look lost, then again he's come on a few times and been magnificent. Once play-offs are secured I'd expect to see a couple of starts out of him, just to give us another proper look. I reckon he'll be a very good player for us in the future, and that's exactly what he was signed for - the future.

I think this is a realistic assessment. As I've posted before whatever worked at a Ilkeston seems to have been nullified during his outings for us.

There have been flashes but he has frequently run into dead ends, and also I wonder about the defensive side of his game.

I imagine how you play without the ball is much more important in the professional game, recovery, positioning, when and how to press etc - though I don't know for sure.

That said I would like to see more of him but maybe DCL is outshining him in the reserves.

Indeed ....... he's a "development" player and looks like one. Good potential though .....
UTB & FTP

cool.. wake me up in 30 years when all these future players are available. they will all miraculously appear in the first team at once suddenly ready with no previous experience. he needs to go to Derby on loan.:D

Ahha fair point, maybe a loan is what he needs, just some first team experience of league football. Might get it with us, who knows!

Is it only me who thinks Adams is a bit shy of being ready for starting?

I can see potential there but he looks naive both with and without the ball and seems to not have the fitness for a full game yet. I think next season is where we'll see what he's really made of, not this.

I would agree, he had a good 15 mins against spurs where he was in the right place at the right time to bag a brace, however for me he was dissappointing in the 5 or 6 games that followed (including 2 starts) so I can understand why he hasnt played more....

I also remember Jordan Slew getting a lot of praise in the U21's.....

Well, maybe I should have said "brought it to life" (for us), as up until that point, we had looked terrible, JCR firing low balls along the goal line, and SUFC players in the box, stood watching it roll past. On one occasion, Higdon literally only had to put one foot forward and the ball would have bounced in off his toe!

Think there's a lot of people with heightened expectations as a result of his performance in the Spurs game - the kid's 18 and was playing non-league six months ago. While he's clearly got talent, he's also clearly a work in progress, and we shouldn't be expecting continuous amazing performances quite this soon

He replaced Baxter. Whilst he did well, unless Baxter was injured he should never have been taken off. He controlled most of the game today. It was nice to see Che though.

Baxter did fine today, but how much better might he have done with a right winger to pick out? Or even Scougall breaking from midfield as well as Holt?

Doyle / Baxter / Coutts is not an ideal trio because everything has to happen in front of Baxter to accommodate his lack of pace and mobility. I was surprised how well he did given options available.

Baxter always reminds me of that rhyme , " When he is good he is very very good but when he is bad he is awful" played some very good passes today but he was so very slow at times in possession ...
Che Adams for me is wasted on the wings, he;s the up front man that will scare defenders to death before he's much older........;)

Pleasantly surprised by Adams' contributions today.

Seemed to get grief from Davies (I may be wrong) but advice and encouragement from Basham.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that due to his age, or the details of the transfer agreement, he can only play a limited number of games for us?

Anyone know if this is the case or am I reading things and believing things I shouldn't be?

HB Jnr has maintained that Adams should be on much more often (he'll run at defence and make them nervous). So when he came on there was a murmur of anticipation from Family HB. I thought he did well, in the short period of time. And I thought it was a positive move from our manager, he didn't bring him on to keep things tight at the back at 1-0.
