In hindsight yes and I came to the same conclusion a few months before his release.

That said there was near silence when we signed Marlon King less than a year earlier.

That’s because he wasn’t high profile and the media weren’t all over it. Personally, I stopped going. It was certainly discussed in depth on BM, as you well know.

Agreed, not looking for an argument but it's interesting.

Marlon King was a more successful and better player than Evans was throughout his career.

Yet the media etc. almost entirely turned a blind eye to his disgraceful past.

I wonder why that was.

That last sentence is nonsense. There was a big issue with the fanbase not being happy with it, but because it didn’t get the media profile no one outside of our fans cared. I can remember commenting on endless threads on it.

Whatever can you mean? Maybe it was the same reason convicted rapist and (at the time) Blackpool owner Owen Oyston was given a free ride.

Completely agree. You just have to look at any of the replies to anything Webster says on United to see the number of people triggered into responding with abuse. I had no problem with her actions at the time, it was a stance on principle that wasn’t taken lightly as she’d have known that it would have sparked an ongoing response from the Ched Fanclub.

Paul Heaton, who took the exact same response at the time he resigned as patron of the Community Foundation, in contrast receives virtually no vitriol from fans. He’s allowed to continue being a fan without attracting the ill will, and Webster should be treated the same way frankly.

I was very anti resigning Evans or having anything to do with him. Do I have to turn my Season Ticket in now as I didn’t support a convicted rapist who acted in an incredibly unprofessional manner and ultimately cost us promotion to our city rivals?

I wasn't happy about it either, along with probably the majority of fans.

What I find curious is why Ennis Heaton et al didn't say or do anything with King but they did with Evans.

I don't know the reason why. I also don't know why King didn't get the same profile as Evans from the media.

Perhaps someone could enlighten me xD

I’ve told you, I think it’s because we were in league one and no one gave a shit. it also didn’t have the media profile of Evans trial while the club was dragged through the mud and then still brought him back. Was Ennis linked with the club when we signed King, was she asked, was Heaton? I’d suggest not.
However you were clearly insinuating something else, yet you don’t seem to want to clarify. Will you now do so, or were you being a twat?

The national media launched a witch hunt of a man who turned out to be innocent, so to see our own 'fans' chucking the club under the bus really pissed me off.

He didn't "turn out to be innocent." It turned out that there wasn't enough evidence to justify the guilty verdict he had received. There was "reasonable doubt."

His behaviour was still pretty deplorable, & like Charlie, I also wasn't particularly keen on re-signing him on that basis alone.

That there is insufficient evidence to prove guilt, does not necessarily mean somebody is innocent.

I'm not saying that Ched is innocent, or guilty. But the events of that night were not great & there is a lot of doubt in my mind as to whether he was innocent, or guilty. For that reason I don't like to definitively declare him as either.

Just that, on the facts that are known, he acted poorly & let a lot of people down.
 
Very strange that Charlie Webster wants to be associated with Sheffield United now we are enjoying a bit of success which is putting us in the limelight, I wonder if she is a bit skint and looking to raise her profile like she did when the Ched saga was in full swing. The slag can fuck off as far as I'm concerned, fucking D list celebs eh :rolleyes:

Yeah, but if someone is not proven to be guilty, there has to be a presumption of innocence, surely. That's how UK law works.

Otherwise I could just say that you're not innocent of mass murder. Would that sit right with you?
