Don't think we're interested in this lad, but might be worth a look as a long-term option at centre back.

Only 21, but already in his 4th season at senior level. Was playing for Wigan at 18 - now in his first season with Hull

He's only 6 foot tall, but is 2nd behind Souttar for aerial duels won for the entire Championship (42 duels won, 11 lost, 79.25% success rate - Souttar was 80.85% for comparison).

One to keep an eye on if he's involved tonight perhaps.

He’s been mentioned a few times on here and I was really keen on him in the summer when he moved from Wigan England junior international standout league one performer including outperforming his defensive partner who was on loan from Liverpool and who they’ll doubtless want millions for in a year or two and he’s holding his own in the champ in a bad side. I hope he is on our radar long term

If it’s Ruben Selles, any hope of making a move for Charlie Hughes? Hull’s young player of the year, dominant in the air.

Not too sure of any other Hull players other than their keeper who may be a shout, clearly not required if Cooper is staying though.

Hughes will be one of the current in demand championship players, but if we are prepared to invest in him it's doable, especially with his last manager at the helm.

Louie Barry is another one worth investing in, hopefully he's recovered from the injury he sustained at Hull.

Didn't we get linked with Alzate at the start of last summer? Be a nice Souza replacement if necessary.

Louie Barry an outside shout as well given our desperate need for wingers

Not that I like to pigeonhole players into only being able to play one position, which is quite clearly bollocks, but I thought Barry played primarily through the middle?

He did as a youth but he’s been moved wide as a senior player playing off either flank he’s not a wide midfielder like you’d see in a 4-4-2 but as a wide forward in a front 3 that’s his position now.

I think this type of thing will be my first test of faith in Selles. Do any of his old players want to play with him again, like Hughes and Alzate.

But, we're not necessarily interested in them... particularly as it would seem those above Selles decide where the money is spent. So it's really setting him up for failure.

Hugely dependant on us even making a move for any of his former players. I do think Hughes would be a fantastic acquisition, especially if we can put a top quality, experienced head alongside him (someone akin to Souttar or Holding) to help encourage and develop his skills.

That said, I haven't seen anything about any players Selles has worked with who have negative sentiments about him. I think it's Harlee Dean on Undr The Cosh who said he was great to work with and gets along great with his players. So it would seem likely that players would be happy to play for him again, so long as we want to sign them.

Did you not see his interview yesterday where he stated it was agreed he has final say on transfers?

Of which he’ll be part of. How do some of you still not get it?
Incorrect, the only zorg part of the process is Grok, who manifests before you're eyes when he's mentioned 3 times in the board room.

My point was that if we don’t get players that he used to manage, it’s not his fault. It’s not a reflection on him. The players will be highlighted to him by the recruitment team, a process he will be fully involved in of course! However, the team might not want his old players that he maybe does want.

I'll probably be wrong ( my wife says so ) but he'll get a major say in first team recruitment, beyond that development signings will be the recruitment team.

I'm fine with the recruitment team going to Selles and saying what's your take on already identified players a, b or c. I am not fine with Selles wasting his time doing the recruitment team's job when coaching and match preparation is more than a full time role in itself, particularly given the typical short tenure of all people in Selles' role which would lead to a natural bias towards short term improvements in Selles' continued employment prospects as opposed to the longer term progression of SUFC. Some players will help towards both, sure. Others will count towards just one, and transfers that don't help SUFC need eliminating. As of course do transfers which don't help either of them

I would prefer us not to go back to lesser teams for lesser players than we have, we need to improve. We should only cherry pick anybody outstanding. That could also contribute to us not signing his old players 🙂
