I've just watched Huddersfield v Wigan in championship and if that's all that a play-off contender has to offer then bring it on!! Very little to show in the way of skill or attacking invention - boring!!! UTB!!

I see no fears for us in the championship
,since 2000 we had 10 years in it and only had one bad year
weve competed before we will again

if shit like wednesday can survive its do able

Strangely, as things have developed over recent years, this league's got more & more skilful, while the championship's tended more and more towards size and strength. You'd have thought it would have been the other way round.

I saw a it the but of the game myself and my thoughts were pretty much the same as yours .

But the reality of the situation in the Championship is different to how it looks right now . Wigan , a newly promoted side , will be fighting to stay in this Division . Whilst Huddersfield are at best a mid table team .

The Division as a whole will start to really take shape after Christmas and it looks like Derby and Villa will be there or thereabouts . Norwich will also be there once they've sorted this current blip out . And much as it pains me to say it , the oinkers will be up there too .

Add these to Newcastle and Brighton and there's undeniable quality there .

Promotion for us this season ( please god make it happen ) and our first season in the Championship will be all about survival imo

People were saying that when we got promoted out of this league in 1989.

I can't remember anyone saying we'd struggle that season . To be fair though , I can't remember anyone saying we'd do well either .

It's chalk and cheese now though mate and it money thats making the difference .A couple more years and the gulf between L1 and the Championship will be similar to the gulf between the Championship and the PL .

I watched 3 championship games this weekend, Barnsley v Notts Forest, Rotherham v Leeds and Huddersfield v Wigan all on Sky. The standard of football in all 3 games was very poor and I would have no fear in our present team being able to hold our own with any of them, the standard at the top must be better but it looks like there are 2 league within 1 in the championship.

I think sometimes we make things larger in our minds these days and consequently the gulf between divisions is often portrayed as wider than it actually is.

I would accept that the top end of the championship is probably further away from division one now, but not the middle or bottom half. Just as in 1989, there is still a lot of dross there.

If we do get promoted, I think how well we do will not just depend on who we sign. Our mental attitude will also play a large. If we think we aren't good enough we won't be.

Newcastle and Brighton looked nailed on for autos but of course that can change. Either way they will be taking up 2 of the top 6 places. Add to that Norwich, Derby and Villa (who are all certs for top 6 in my opinion) then it leaves 1 place for the gruntbags to scrap for. Are they that much better than Fulham, Huddersfield, Reading and Leeds? Not so sure based on what they have done so far. I guess the JTW could be the telling factor and they certainly have cash to spend.

Its what most teams say when they win promotion isn't it luke, survival for a season or two then push to mid table before seeing if they can push on into the play offs, for certain teams like rovrum then fair enough but for us I am expecting (hoping) to see investment that will take us to at least mid table in our first season, im thinking Liverpool not city.:-)

Out of the last six teams promoted from our league only one has been relegated back down to it, that was the plastics. Rotherham look like making it two this season but when you think of the size of the club's getting relegated from the Championship, i.e Rotherham, MK plastics, Doncaster and Yeovil in recentish seasons then you'd have to think we'd have more than a great chance of holding our own in the Championship.

Some will say size of the club doesn't come into it but have a look at the stats and they are there for all to see. Ambition from the owners and spending that money shrewdly also comes into it but the bigger the club the more you generally get to spend.

One example of this is the amount of times we'll be on sky this season and how many times Scunny will be on, a small proportion in the grand scheme of things but it will still mean we'll have more money to spend due to us been the bigger club, on T.V more, with a lot more viewing figures.

Unfortunately for Scunny that's just how football is now and even if they're promoted ahead of us in the league this season, i think we'll still have a better chance of succeeding in the Championship than they will.

In the Championship, attendance revenue is still a substantial portion of overall income so size is relevant. Our attendances will be double that of Scunny's or Rotherham's and it will make a big difference.

Going off topic somewhat, but this jtw could be the most important in years at the lane. If we're up there in January and McCabe and Prince wotshisname can see the light, CW will be investing in championship survival as much as L1 promotion. I'm getting moist just thinking about it.

Would it be better to save this discussion for if and when.. well you know!

Oddly enough, I get very worried when we start splashing the cash. I think the medical term is Robson Syndrome.

All this thread is missing is
Hms piss the league
40000 crowds
Two thirds of this city's is ours
Wawaw

We're miles off competitive in the Champ. A top half finish if we were promoted would be absolutely astonishing even if we spent big.

One step at a time Lads, let's try and get into the top two first.

The Championship is an excellent division

The 5th best supported in Europe and probably the 5th best in terms of ability

We are nowhere near that standard and we have a massive job on our hands to push on once we get there

We must see different things - i've watched several Championship games this season, and other than the top 4 teams, say, i've not been impressed by the standard at all. I think we'd finish mid-table as it stands.

I think perhaps you have different attitudes. You are perhaps less inclined to adopt the traditional Bladey cap-doffing inferiority complex.

The truth is that whilst we are a long way from the standard of the top teams, we would be well capable, with a few astute signings from our very good manager, of existing comfortably in the lower middle section.

Hate hoof love football ;)

Not a prayer if Wilder sticks with Clarke, only ever going to be an ageing impact sub, if someone could explain what "impact" means!!!
