In other news punters at London Zoo have voted for Animal of the Year which has the eyes of a hawk, the wings of an eagle, the teeth of a shark, the fur of a polar bear, the neck of a giraffe, and the legs of a cheetah.

Boffins are working on genetically manufacturing this fantastic creature, releasing it into the wild, and witnessing its dominance as an apex predator.

My best eleven picked from non blades and based on the players I've seen with my own eyes cause us the most problems or put in the best performances.

Jensen -Wall
Hume -Sunderland
Esteve - Burnley
Strurijk - Weeds
Firpo - Weeds
Brownhill - Burnley
Rudoni - Coventry
Chakvetadze - Watford
Watson - Sunderland
Fleming - Burnley
Coburn - Wall

sub: Rothwell - Weeds was their best player at Elland Road and turned the game when he came off the bench in our home fixture.

If it was voted for in January then Souttar should have been in the team. No way is Burrows the best left back in the division, he gets beaten too easily by fast wingers as he's lacking in pace.
Yes it kind of smacks of ‘we can’t just put one Sheff U player in, who else have they got?’!

It wasn't voted for in January. The PFA awards probably are, but this particular award is determined by a "panel of experts" much later.

-------------------Trafford
Bogle--Egen-Riley--Esteve--Burrows
----------Tanaka-Bellingham
James---------Brownhill----------Hamer
---------------------Piroe

Honourable mentions:
Murphy (Portsmouth), Bishop (Portsmouth), Cooper (Blades), Souza (Blades), Sainz (Norwich), Hume (Sunderland), Rudoni (Coventry), Firpo (Leeds)

I'm not entirely sure what other result people are expecting from the Championship team of the season given the constraint of three players from any one team. Burnley's defensive record was, until recently, allied to relatively poor attacking output so it was the obvious choice for them to provide the goalkeeper and two centre halves. While Leeds' wing backs have been the best in the division by a country mile as well as being a critical part of the team's success, the same can be said for their main wingers (James and Solomon) and Tanaka in the middle of the park. Five into three doesn't go.
That leaves the front 6. Hamer is a shoe-in but beyond him we've not been great going forward; although you could make a case for Tyrese Campbell as a striker given his goals per game but his availability has been limited; Sargent has scored 15 and has played nearly 1,000 minutes more than Campbell. Rightly or wrongly, Sainz basically sewed up a spot with that ridiculous run in the autumn where every long range effort he hit went in and so his recent form (2 goals in 22 appearances) is overlooked.

I'd have gone with: Trafford // Hume - Estève - Egan-Riley - Firpo // Bellingham - Souza - Tanaka // Solomon - Sargent - Hamer

If we're allowed subs (up to 3 per team) then add in Cooper (United), Struijk (Leeds), Bogle (Leeds), Brownhill (Burnley), James (Leeds), Murphy (Portsmouth), Rudoni (Coventry), Campbell (United) & Wright (Coventry). I've probably overlooked a couple of Bristol City players but I've no idea about any of them.

The final, damning, indictment of the current state of English football is that the best team the Championship could put out would finish rock bottom in the top flight.

It shows how weird this season has been, when normally you'd back your players to the hilt in this sort of thing, but most of us are surprised Burrows has been voted the best left back in the league, and surprised Hamer has won player of the year.

hard not to agree however one slight twist Trafford didn't play behind our defence all season :)
Think that's key. I think Cooper is a better keeper than Trafford all-round, but for an award like this there is no way they don't pick the keeper who's team has only conceded 1 goal every 3 matches all season. Their defence has been frankly ridiculous, and he plays a huge part in that, so I think it's fair he gets in.

Souza has been incredible for us, and I think his omission being a reason for our drop-off gets underplayed behind Souttar, but I'm not sure you can have someone that's barely played in the 2nd half of the season in a Team of the Year!

I don't think the fans have anything like the same love for the team that they had for the pre 2020 team. A hangover from last season might be partly responsible for that, but I also think it isn't that loveable by comparison.

Souza has made 34 appearances (31 starts) totalling 2,722 minutes which is more than Dan James who made the official team. Souza's absence has been highlighted by the impact it's had on the team.

If anyone's inclusion in my team needs questioning on that ground it's Firpo (31 apps, 29 starts; 2,533 mins) or Sargent (31 apps, 27 starts; 2,417 mins)

Probably a function of the story behind the 2016-20 team which came from the lowest point of the last 30+ years (11th in L1) to a flying, well-oiled machine which outscored this season's version by around 15 goals, as well as the view that our football this season has been functional rather than exciting.

I rate Burrows quite highly and think he'll play in the top flight. However, hard to argue he's been. Constantly really good since January.

I wonder why that is?

Actually, I don't. As I've said repeatedly, the drop in Burrows' form and output aligns to the timing of Souttar's injury.

Watson was brilliant for Sunderland at Bramall Lane so I'm not surprised that you chose him, given your criteria. However he was injured shortly after and never played for weeks. In that time Brighton chased him (they also chased him last summer) and we sold him to them for £10m/£11m.

fit again, Le Bris has chosen him again but he has been poor on his return, the fans have had a bit of a go at him, and loads of SAFC fans have said that he isn't bothered about playing for SAFC now and is on the beach and will leave for the South Coast at the end of the season.

I suppose £10m/£11m is what it is but personally I'm slightly disappointed that we wont see much of a lad who was at the club from 6 years old and has made little more than a dozen appearances for the first team. Exactly who is our youth system supposed to benefit - us or everyone else?

Not seen anyone break us down so easily as the lad at Portsmouth.

The entire team dropped off though. If midfield is struggling then he's getting fewer balls going forward. Fewer players getting into the box to cross to. We went from dominating possession in games and creating quite a lot of chances to creating a lot less. At the same time, as you say, Souttar got injured and our defence was poorer.
