Following on from the Deadbat prediction thread, I thought we could have a little bit of a challenge to see how we all fair against each other come the end of the season.

I challenged Deadbat on his thread yesterday by saying he wasn't close enough with his predictions. So, i've devised a point scoring system:

  • 20pts for a correct position
  • -1pt for each position out (higher or lower)
For example, if I said Blades would finish 6th but they finished 10th, I would lose 4pts.

Based on last seasons prediction thread by Deadbat, he would've scored -88pts (he got Forest and Burton correctly placed).

The only other who put up their predictions in that thread was Woodwardfan who predicted Blades, Boro and Burton correctly (60pt start), ended with -72pts in total.

So, i'll go with:

  1. WBA
  2. Stoke
  3. Nottm Forest
  4. Leeds
  5. Middlesbrough
  6. Derby
  7. Swansea
  8. Sheffield United

Your scoring system is very black and white - for example you could have every team just one out and end with -24 points when your forecast was really good. The jump from 20 to -1 is a bit too severe. Something like 20, 10, 5, 2, 1, 0 and then -1 per place would smooth it out a bit.

I see Forest and Leeds are having plenty of caps doffed in their direction. Neither will do anything like as well as the imperfect “spending money equals success” equation would suggest.

Put yours up then.

Yeah, if you score a negative score, you donate the cash equivalent to the forum

I may have misunderstood the initial post.

How is it possible to score negative based on 20 for a correct position and -1 for every position wrong. You're going to score -4/-1 at the worst for 8 places and everything else will be 0-20.

If you had Sunderland down for 6th place you would've lost 18 points last season.

I made it up whilst I was having a shit.

Leeds aren’t just splashing the cash - they have somehow managed to acquire the best manager in the division.

Much as I can see United doing well we still need that goalscorer to ensure a top 6 position

Have they? Based on what?

Zero experience in England and his last three jobs haven't exactly been a success.

He originates from a very physical footballing background. He pushes through youth at the first opportunity, he plays hard, high pressing football from a 3-3-3-1 formation. Guardiola and Pochettino both cite him as one of their strongest influences in football. He can also fall out with senior management in his clubs, which could cause an early departure if things start poorly - but if he stays for 2 or 3 years and Leeds continue to support him financially they will be a top half Prem club.

Time will tell.

Wow! Now that’s what I call doffing!
