....and the winner is....

To be honest it should concern us, we need to look at who we'd like to go up as to avoid next season, the strongest team in there are Fulham, so we need them out of the league, the rest are hit and miss teams at best so from our point of view I think it's ok to discuss..

I want Fulham promoted, they'd take points of us, not sure if all the others would..

Absolute rubbish! Sorry! I was going to start this with..."with respect"...but we all know what that really means and so I didn't bother.

First of all, I have to excuse myself, my comments are not meant as a personal attack on you so don't take it that way, but it's like this...

I am an optimist. I know, I shouldn't live in Sheffield because that means I don't really fit in with the negative, glass half-empty, personality that seems to be the norm here. But just put that aside for one minute.

I've been watching for about 40 years. Never, in all that time, have I seen a more "together" team playing better football than this. Never have I felt we've had a better manager either. Now, you are saying that we've got "some players that wouldn't have looked out of place" - I'd argue that the majority of the current squad wouldn't look much out of place and that the ones we will add to it will make us a real force to be reckoned with in the Championship.

We've done back to back promotions before. Some of those players in the Bassett side were not ones who you would have thought could cut it at Championship level - but they did - and how! And why? Because of the togetherness of that team Bassett put together - which included Wilder btw.

I think the big difference between that back to back promotion winning team of Bassett's and this one is, we don't have a deadly striking combo like Deane and Agana. And that may be a limiting factor but we'll see who else comes in between now and the start of the season.

But make no mistake...this current squad would give most teams in the Championship a good run for their money and with some quality additions to it we will definitely be up there near the top. That's my honest opinion based on many years of watching United. I've always been optimistic but not this optimistic. It will not take another 2 or 3 years. Neither will Wilder be going for "a season of consolidation" like some of you folks are talking about - that's totally ridiculous and definitely not Chris Wilder.

So I am hoping for nothing less than top 6. In fact, I'm not hoping for it, I'm totally expecting it. And you know what dear Blades - talking about something doesn't make it not happen. So be positive because you've never had a better reason to be positive than this.

Brilliant post
Togetherness, hard work, team spirit and a willingness to die on the pitch for each other are traits that have served us well under two previous managers, Bassett and Warnock. We've not had it under any other apart from Cloughs second half of his first season.

Under Wilder we have all of those things plus one other thing...................more ability

Back to back promotions will be difficult but it should not be dismissed as being impossible because we have done it before with a team that on paper had no right to do it, and if it wasn't for Deane and Agana we wouldn't have done it

Fine margins, and it just shows that two or three quality additions can really make the difference. If we can find them, why should we not have a chance

I for one wont dismiss back to back promotion , I dont have the advantage of seeing any live games apart from on sky etc unlike many in this fantastic body of fans (health issues ) , but with a few more astute signings I can see us definitely see us flirting with the top 6 all season , Being a arm chair fan I have watched a lot of championship games and the only teams that have impressed me with their football are Brighton and Huddersfield :) and odd occasions fulham

To think theres a gulf between top 8 league one and mid table championship is utter delusion

Burton have proven theres is no such gulf
Huddersfield and Preston have both shown any gulf is purely in the heads of anyone going up there

League One is no better or worse than its been in over a decade
and the same goes for the championship
its very competitive , true but thats because all the clubs are as bad as each other
poorly run clubs , trying to live the dream of getting in the prem and getting big money ,
trying hard to do it on the cheap
