In our hunt for the best Championship strikers to perform for us at PL level it got me thinking...

Which Championship (or Division 1) strikers/attacking players have succeeded at that level and then gone on to be successful at PL level the very next season?

I understand a lot of players work up from lower leagues and end up performing well with development... But how many have bagged 20+ Championship, and then bag 10+ in their debut PL season?

edit: Kev Philips is only one found so far... 23 goals in 25 games div 1... and then 30 at PL level to get the European Golden Shoe award in his debut PL season... how that chap didn't end up at Man Utd or Arsenal is insane!

Charlie Austin scored 18 in his first PL season, 1 more than he scored in the Champ the year before (only played 31 games that season) and he got 25 the year before that. Callum Wilson may not have scored as many but he's been a success at the higher level too

Agree....as a general rule the top Championship strikers seem to struggle in the PL.
Hence why the transfer fees for the top Championship strikers is usually quite low.

Jamie Vardy? Don’t think he did too well first season but he made the step up eventually

Just to clarify, there was no agenda or opinion behind my post, I was just intrigued with the stats. For the record, I like the way we are going about things this transfer window, and definitely think it's worth a punt getting top end championship players in

Reliable double figures goalscorer to build the attack around. He'd score more in a better team than Burnley, too.

Market value now? £25m ish?

Crazy isn't it, that you even have to write figures like that for such players.

Scored 24 in Champ equivalent in 1989/90 and 13 in Division 1/Prem the following season.

I suppose the gap is arguably bigger these days.

Our market for new blood, clearly, is looking to acquire the Championships better talent.

The FACT that many armchair experts have already dismissed the prospects of the most prolific pairing in last seasons Championship, tells its own story !

Yes we need fresh meat, back up and options.

But the resounding chorus of “dismissive” before a ball has even been kicked in anger, has an all too familiar tone to it .
