So we've signed 3 new players and have been linked with a number of middies such as Leonard and Holmes but so far not a whisper for a centre half.

This is the position most in need of strengthening as we've lost EEL, Wilson is on the list, Basham isn't an out and out centre half and it's debatable if Wright can make the step up.

Is this the position where the 'big money' will be spent and if so who do we think it's going to be spent on?I still think EEL could return but apart from him we don't seem to have been linked with anyone....apart from some probably way off speculation about Jags.

So who do we want ?

Seriously I think CW would have moved for Byron Webster again if Millwall hadn't won the play-off final....he may still do.

Probably waiting to talk to Brayford or its the position where he's going to have to spend and go for a higher level target. We're certainly short of one if not 2 centre halves depending on the formation he's intending to play.

I imagine he will bring in at least one centre half (possibly two). I'm not necessarily expecting big money to be spent on them but I think we will put a decent fee on the table for he right player.

Here comes another summer of every panicking every day that we haven't completed our business. It's still May and we've already signed three! Chill.

Don't panic.
We will sign centre halves. But I take exception to folk saying Bash isn't a centre half....or Brayford.

Some players can be specialists in more than one position. The Brayford one was a stick used to beat Clough when he (quite rightly) refused to utilise one of the single worst centre halves I have known play for the blades and picked Brayford there instead.

As for Wright....it's debatable on here if he can make the step up, but thankfully that's for the manager to decide....and he has chosen to sell Wilson and keep Wright! So that suggests he thinks he will be able to make the step up and get game time.

Webster can stay in Millwall for me, search elsewhere.

Wasn't Wilder chasing Craig Morgan at Wigan last season too?
Maybe he will be back on the radar

What's likely to happen is that we'll hear a rumour and then whilst we're still discussing it, the transfer will be confirmed. We don't seem to be doing long drawn out transfers anymore.

We'll sign an experienced one to play in the middle and then a right sided younger one, possibly EEL but I hope not.

It's gone a bit quiet about Jason McCarthy. Hope that resurfaces because he'd be an excellent investment, or good loan signing.

Still plenty of time left, season doesn't start for another 2 1/2 month

I hope not too!! I take solace in the fact that Wilder seemed reluctant to pick him as the season went on...

CW said he wants 2 Centre halves. So he knows he needs them

The more I think about it the more keeping Brayford would make sense. The guy might have married Nigel behind closed doors and be expecting their first child soon, meaning a long maternity that would put Brayford out for the season. But purely in footballing terms, it'd make sense.

I heard its triplets... to be called Nigel, John and Gary even if they are girls.

I want to congratulate everyone who has replied as 20 posts in the name Dan Burns hasn't surfaced....oops I've ruined it !

How long as Brayford got left on his contract, and do we want to be paying the wages he's supposed to be on.
He's had a good season with Burton, in the same league we find ourselves in. Unless they want to keep him, and cw doesn't want him, they've got to pay up. imo, bring him back.

We're sticking with 3-5-2:

Hill--McEveley--Davis--Nosworthy--Williams

Ryan Bennett, Michael Turner and Sebastian Bassong are all available on a free transfer, would offer them all a reasonable deal and see what they say then pick one going forward

Bennett's the only one I'd want there, but he's been linked with Brighton. Would like us to have a go for him though, would be about the best we could get IMO, especially on a free.
