That was Freudian. A lot of people did want to kill Gannon.nah it's Matty KilgaNNon that's coming back ;-)
Sounds more like the ingredient in a pie, but with regard to old Terry, I think his legs are a major problem and we may well have seen the best he can produce. So any thoughts of Terry being an influential figure should be barred. Whether it's a pairing of Basham and one other, the next couple of months will tell...if Wallace remains fit then we have a significant influence ready to drive us forward. Added to which, if Cuvelier also shows his worth, we may have answers to those positional questions that have been mulled over in these pages. The final, as yet unanswered, question is - who will give us that edge up front? We have a few permutations, but only playing time will provide some kind of insight into that.
I just think back to the play off semis. We were coping with Swindon pretty well with Bash in midfield but when Brayford got injured and Bash went into defence they got the upper hand in midfield.
So, if we move Bash to CH permanently, do we need another CM? I just don't think our current situation is resolvable without signing someone.
Because Clough saw how we lost control of the midfield without Bash. That's why he played Alcock. He knew if he played Bash in defence they'd dominate us in midfield, he was so concerned he'd rather take a risk than play him there (I think he also felt they were more dangerous on the deck and Alcock was better at dealing with that threat than Collins, although it turned out they were pretty dangerous in the air too).Except Bash was in midfield in the away leg.
It really is a great shame about Terry Kennedy. I think many see that he's 5'10 / 5'11 and almost write him off as a centre half. But when fit he will win every header, talk non stop to his defence, puts himself about and really is an asset. He was one of the few that Clough really did praise. But as we know he has had injury issues with his knees and whilst I hope they are sortable I can't help but feel they will be a major limiting factor to his progression in the game.

Question: is it one knee or both?
Some players can be unrecognisable from one manager to another. Let's trust that NA knows his stuff and take it from there.
None of that alters the fact that we were dominated in midfield in the first leg when Bash was moved to defence or my original point that if Bash becomes a permanent fixture as centre half, it partially solves the centre half problem but creates one in midfield.Going back to this is like re-living a nightmare.
Sums it up for me that Collins didn't travel and we had a bench of: Doyle, B.Davies, S.Davies, McGahey, Adams, Holt. I would have played five of those personally.
On the field we had Done who had not been fit enough to play in the first leg nor on and off for weeks and Coutts could only shuffle around in midfield. Four full backs played across the back line and were 5'10", 6'0", 5'8", 5'8", only McEveley a real competitor in the air.
S.Davies came on after an hour and Adams only came on after 86 minutes and of course there were no defenders to bring off the bench.
If you saw merit in any of that and particularly Basham in midfield fair enough. I didn't and when we went 3 down there was little surprise, other than it was possible fir it to happen so immediately.. We didn't even attempt to play it tight in midfield, the gap between the lines was massive. Usually was when Doyle didn't play.
Thank goodness it's all over. Apologies to all Clough fans, I've sort of gotten drawn into this unintentionally.
I was thinking we've got a few more options in midfield BB...one or two out injured though, but certainly Wallace could make a big difference, and maybe Adams wide right so we aren't just relying on Murph as our main line of attack...pace and attacking threat on both sides.I just think back to the play off semis. Wasn't there some substance in the Kyle Macfadzean rumour?
Not sure who can do the defensive stuff in cm as well as Bash though. Wallace should be given licence to get forward, Coutts I'm not sure about, don't think we've seen the best of him but he seems more of a playmaker type.I was thinking we've got a few more options in midfield BB...one or two out injured though, but certainly Wallace could make a big difference, and maybe Adams wide right so we aren't just relying on Murph as our main line of attack...pace and attacking threat on both sides.
It's looking at the moment like New Nige might go with Collo and JMac,and Bash in midfield...Probably more clues in how we line up v Newcastle.
Collins and Maguire was a great partnership

I was thinking Coutts, but not heard New Nige even mention him or the extent of his injury....think you're right on Wallace though. Not sure who can do the defensive stuff in cm as well as Bash though. That sounds good.......a centre back pairing that conceded 5 against Swindon.Only kidding.
