Think I've told both these stories about Cec before but anyway here goes.
As I mentioned Cec was a friend of my Mum's family, they grew up in the same village (Dungworth). My Aunty and her friend used to go to the Lane when they were in their early teens and used to stand down near the front of the Kop, Cec always told Hodgy to make sure he kept an eye on them.
The other one was at the first game I remember attending, me and my brother had spent a few weeks in the summer holidays at The Star Soccer Skills coaching camp, and the certificates were presented to us at a match (against Fulham - Moore, Marsh and Best). We had seats in the South Stand and at some point in the game a player went down injured in front of us. After treating the player Cec was making his way back round to the old John St dugouts and spotted my Mum, he stopped for a chat for a good couple of minutes. John Garrett once told me that one of the things he had in his bag along with the magic sponge was a small bottle of whisky for the injured player to take a swig - how times change.
