So as my original point was I believe Leonard is here also to put pressure on Basham for the RCB slot.

As well as pressure on the other centre mids etc.
I haven't ruled it out. He wouldn't be the first player to move into a deeper role as he steps up a level; Jags was a good CM at championship level but not in the PL. Older readers will remember all action box to box Glenn Cockerill playing as a defensive midfielder at Southampton or Brown at Spurs etc.
There's a good argument for replacing Bash with someone who is a bit more composed on the ball.
Whether or not that's CW's intention, I have no idea but I'm struggling to see how we can fit Fleck, Evans, Holmes and Leonard in CM so I'm not sure what CW is thinking and I don't want to think of the alternatives until the window has closed. The obvious one is unthinkable at the moment.

Ryan Leonard will 100% not play CB for us... not in a million years. More chance of Wilder signing Christian Nade as our striking coach...

Hope you don’t have to eat your word , there are some on here that will be happy to ram them down your throat!

Will be same as always the ones that are fully adamant he won’t play they will just go oh. Never admit they were wrong.

Lenny may very well play RCB if needs must. He may even end up there, though I disagree with that (so what) but really, let’s just acknowledge that, in the absence of any evidence whatsoever to the contrary, we’ve brought in a player who’s won multiple awards as a central midfielder and who has played that position for the entire period we’ve been chasing him, to play in his usual position. Central Midfield it is, Lendog.

So. What about this Egan fellow?

Do we still need cover for Bash? Or are we going to change system and stick with the cover we have for a back 4?

Have we decided where all these midfielders are going to fit? And if not what will happen to those who won’t play?

I honestly think that the arrival of 3 midfield players this window allows us more flexibility in the system we play. We can change tactic fluidly with one substitution, and even if teams react to that we can change again on the field withbhopefully no loss of erredtiveness.
I reckon holmes arrival is the challenge To duffy. He hasn’t the stamina to maintain his levels for 90 mins or consecutive games.

But I’m looking forward to see how it effects the team.

100%?? Are you sure? Read what Wilder said to Giddings

Right who’s first to admit they were wrong....

Yep, it looks like I was wrong. Hey ho...what do I know? I’ve been wrong before I’ll be wrong again.

If playing Leonard at RCB works (if he’s a good enough defender) it could take Total Tuftyball to a whole new dimension.

Well fancy that Pinchy

Fancy that he could be used at RCB? Very few deny that. There’s no suggestion at all that he will play there. I’ve listened to the interview in full. It’s clear Tufty sees him as a central midfielder (as anyone with any sense knows given the points we’ve covered time and again) who can cover at the back.

That’s a world of difference from this daft notion that we’ve bought a multi player of the year, box to box, goalscoring midfielder to play fucking centre-back!

It’s hard work on here sometimes.

Can tell you know it won’t be Pinchy

I do, on the odd occasion I am. Tufty hasn’t said anything beyond Lenny can play at the back if needed and is a versatile player. We all knew that anyway, I hope. It doesn’t alter the basic proposition that we’ve bought him because we’re impressed with his displays in centre-midfield.

Lenny, Holmes and Evans are here to duplicate Coutts Fleck and Duffy and to mix and match with them according to form, fitness and Tufty’s preferences.

People should listen to what he actually says rather than latching onto half of it and hearing what they want to hear. He said he wants a ‘one for one’ situation. In other words two good quality players for each position, not a first choice and cover. He’s close to achieving that now, especially in midfield. He’s a shrewd operator.

We’ll see various permutations at various terms in the middle. The one people are ignoring is Evans. He hasn’t been recruited as a mere squad-filler. He’ll be in the team very soon Couttsying away merrily. Holmes and Leonard will be regulars too.

People will start; people will be in the bench. We’ll alter things mid-match. It’s all good. Stop fretting about having good players to choose from and how to shoehorn them in. Tuftyball is an 18 man game. It’s fluid; it’s flexible; it’s fucking fine.

So basically you think that Fleck and Duffy are in trouble then for the midfield?

Have you got where the interview he said Leonard would be starting in CM, or should I ready between the lines that because we have been chasing him for 9 months, starting is a given?
