He's made his name in midfield, this is the position Sarfend fans wax lyrical about him. Would be a strange one for me.

Bizarre I’d say. We buy a fella with impressive credentials for central midfield, including goal scoring. Neither our manager nor the player have given the slightest hint that we’re rebranding him as a centre-back. Nobody in the media has ever made any such suggestion. Yet our fans have decided he’s the new Basham.

It's just speculation based on the way we play ,no one knows where he will play if he swaps places with lundstram then fine but I'd hope he'd doing more than that

He’s not going to ‘sit’ in any role by the way. He’s all action box to box and scores goals. If anyone is going to do the Coutts thing it’s Lee Evans who appears to have played a very similar role at Bradford and Wigan, in both cases very well liked by the respective fans,

Our centre back plays like an inside wing back ,would be handy to have someone who could play defensive midfield ,right back and right centre back

In my opinion it would be a great waste if all he does is sit in the lundstram role to let the less able Basham to bomb forward

Why do you feel that is so unlikely? Leonard had played CB previously, , he has the required traits, there are no other natural alternatives to Bash for RCB and the two central midfield positions can be covered by Fleck, Lundstram and Evans?

I suspect it is far more likely he plays there, in some games at least, than you think.

I'll be honest and say I think that Leonard is direct competition for Bash. Or maybe an improvement on Bash, which I think is needed. Anyway, wouldn't surprise me to see Leonard fill all the roles Bash has at some point.

I suspect it is far more likely he plays there, in some games at least, than you think.

Looking at the players we had on the bench against Wednesday last week I'd say that Leonard was the only player in the squad who could have played RCB if Basham had got injured.

After discussing it with someone else on here, probably not. I've seen him carry the ball forward a couple of times and he looked quite comfortable but I'm not sure he has the stamina to do it for a full game. I think he used to play right back at times when he was younger.

So as my original point was I believe Leonard is here also to put pressure on Basham for the RCB slot.

As well as pressure on the other centre mids etc.
