Since the 70s I reckon our managers can be broadly broken down into 5 categories
1. Successful with "lesser" clubs and the United job is a step up: Furphy, Sirrel, Haslam, Porterfield, Warnock, Adams, Wilder
2. Players with stellar careers given their first managerial job: Peters, Spackman, Bruce, Heath, Speed, Weir
3. Impressed as a coach at SUFC: McEwan, Blackwell, Heckingbottom
4. Done it at the top level but career seemingly going downward: Bassett, Kendall, Robson, Wilson, Adkins
5. Managed at roughly Uniteds level at currently unemployed: Clough, Jovanovic
We've never before had a "mediocre record with "lesser" clubs", so I suppose that's a new category
