I think most racism at games ive seen is met with disapproving looks, or even the odd comment. People will say it should be challenged more vigorously, but people are presumably worried that the person moronic enough to start throwing racist abuse, May not think twice about throwing their fists either.

Am not a natural Celtic fan, but I was always amused with their "There's only one Nakamura! There's only one Nakamura! He eats chow mein, and he votes Sinn Fein. Walking in a Celtic Wonder Land"... and although he was Japanese I am sure he knew more about Chinese cuisine than he did about Irish politics.

If this is the case, then it sounds like the treatment Rigsby's racism got in Rising Damp.

It's complicated and, to me, very interesting for all sorts of reason.

An extreme example might be, say, an infantry unit where soldiers may use superficially extremely racist names towards other soldiers in their unit, but those same soldiers are literally be willing to die for each other.

It's some sort of bonding, or exclusion of outsiders - bc if they went into a bar and a civilian used the extremely racist name then they would be set upon.

I know from personal experience what it's like to be on the receiving end of racist comments and chants. Even if the club does little or nothing to address the issue, at least they know it's been reported and are aware that it's an on-going problem.
