Quite frankly, i am getting very worried about what carver has to say. He is making it blatantly obvious that he wants the job, and am really starting to fear we may go that way. It would be a typical Sheff Utd appointment that would no doubt p*ss the fans right off.

With a few good alternatives floating around, i pray that we don't give in to carver, regardless of how well he does in his brief time as caretaker. Come on Kev, show us you know what you're doing and don't just appoint your 'mates'!

I don't really care who gets the job - as long as he gets the team playing, and scoring. If we thrash Swansea on Saturday, Carver's chances will obviously improve, though Birch has said he favours an experienced manager. I don't have a problem with appointing from within, as long as it's the right man. It never used to do Liverpool any harm.
That said, I was doubtful when Speed was appointed, and he did little to make me change my mind.

Ah but what happens if he does a fantastic job and we win every game, playing free flowing football with lots of goals (unlikely I know but bear with me)? Surely if he proves he can do that then he's someone we want.

Not my personal opinion. Just throwing it out there for comment.

???

Seth: "Is management on the radar for you at the moment ?"
JC: "Er, no"

I'm not really sure what you expect Carver to say, he's been dumped in a position and is filling in, but no doubt he wants to be running the show and fair play to him.

If he does a good job and its get the job until the end of the season then isn't that a good thing?

My concern is that unless we sort someone permanent soon (i.e. before Christmas) then we'll be missing the transfer window to see if we can wheel and deal.

Just watched his post match reaction on Blades Player.

I like how he comes across, seems to be a no nonsense coach come caretaker. Seems very straight talking and tells it how it is.

I haven't seen much of him before and he looks like a decent character to have at the club.

Obviously he has to say the right things such as "i have a contract at the club" as he wants to keep his job, but that aside seems a decent geezer.

If Carver does a good job, why not? Whoever we get is a massive gamble. Let's face it, apart from Ferguson, Wenger and Redknapp, all other managers rely on percentages - you win some, you lose some and eventually you get the sack.

Blackwell's win ratio was exceptional, but the performances under him were stultifying. SOD may not be the second coming that some think.

Anyway, much-needed win against a team which illustrates how poor this division is (Third? Jesus!). We're down to the bare bones now, both player- and support-wise. In fact, almost exactly as Warnock found us all those years ago.

Ched was awesome yesterday. I also liked Noz (apart from etc...), Bartley, Reed and Britton. I'm much more confident today as we will surely continue to get wins where we least expect them. 50 - 52 points should do it.

PS. Morning, Dunc!

I don't think we could take a risk on Carver. I would however like to say thank you to Carver for yesterday. The players put in a good shift yesterday and us fans needed it. Yesterday was all about the win

He wont get the job as he doesnt have experience in the Championship which Birch said was a requirement.

One of Carver's comments really tweaked my tits. Words to this effect were "this one's for Gary Speed" or "this wins for Gary Speed" ????
WTF?
What about "that one is is for the fans" you clown. Bollox to GS he's gone.

Woah, and the award for 'Biggest Overreaction of 2010' goes to...

To be fair to John Carver, that game yeserday produced the most solid display of the season IMO. We stopped them playing and took our chance when we got it. We did exactly what he said we would try to do in the week.

Despite a relatively dull game with few chances, United did a very professional job on Swansea and deserved the win. Great ball from Reidy and finish from Ched. Perhaps Carver should be considered. Not my choice, but he's obviously done a good job this week.
