So JC feels emboldened to start talking about the position of Andy Reid.
Glad to see someone's got an eye on the transfer window at our club de comedy.

Someone needs to and he's the man in the seat. But you are right, delaying the management decision brings its own difficulties.

So we sit on our hands and stop running the business?

What did Carver say?

Regardless of whether Carver stays or someone else comes in, then any new manager coming in would want Reid in the team.

Unless the new manager has told the club to try and keep Reid

The interesting comment from that interview is "I will carry on planning as normal because there is no good in shutting down and wondering whether I will or won't get the job".

Seems he's maybe not as 'uninterested' in the job as he's made out so far.

He has done Caretaking before so probably knows what to say, and what not to say.

So long as he doesn`t sign Earnshaw ;)

Well need a crowbar to get him out of the managers office at this rate!

Any new manager will be expected to "teem and ladle" with very limited resources. They'll probably be told they need to sell before they are allowed to buy (or even loan). Reid is a good player but what if the next manager wants to play with two pacy wingers and two strong, powerful central midfielders. Where would Reid fit in then? It would be crazy for United to commit to spending a large amount of the available kitty on a player who the next manager may not want or need.

Even more so in the case of Richard Wright. As his contract is due to expire soon, he is one of the few players who the next manager could offload without any difficulty to free up some funds. Maybe the next manager knows of an available upcoming young keeper, who can be developed and challenge Simonsen for a fraction of Wright's wages? Isn't that supposed to be the way forward that Birch was talking about?

The only logical explanation for signing up Reid AND/OR Wright in advance of the next manager being appointed, is that United already know who it's going to be and he's given the go ahead. Either that or United are just being stupid.
