Carruthers staying?!

At the risk of getting pelters, I still think he's a decent option off the bench in a tight game - especially if Brooks is out longer term.

How do you know? I'm not asking for names.
I know someone who knows him very well.
It's not from the horses mouth but it's pretty darn close. Neeeiiighh.

Really no clue on names though. Could've been fat lad at Charlton. Could've been a return to MK. Could be literally anywhere, all I know is he wouldn't leave.

Fortunately not at the Preston game but if we are in the business of writing off + slinging out players after 1 woeful league game then we'd also be minus Bash, JOC, Stearman, Fleck, Duffy and Sharp this season.
Fortunately it's not just 1 game we're writing him off for.
His end product just isn't up to scratch. He has no defensive discipline, he doesn't know when to pass, runs down blind alleys and just simply isn't good enough for this League.

Top end League 1 player though.

Thomas and Carruthers clearly havent impressed wilder - especially wilders interviews this month, seems to have almost closed the door on both which is surprising. I can only imagine Thomas is a piss poor trainer because he's played ok whenever hes been on for us
A close friend is a Hartlepool fan and said that Thomas’ reputation was really poor there and there were several run ins with management and players. It struck me at Ipswich that his refusal to go off in the first half when he had a knock could be a bad move. It’s one thing to impress a manager but totally different to ignore their instructions.

I don't see any harm in trying to play on and impress your manager.
We've been missing that type of commitment for a long time before Wilder came in. The likes of Brandy, Sammon, Cuvelier couldn't wait to get injured and come off the pitch. They wouldn't have dreamed of trying to play through the pain barrier to prove themselves.

Ignoring instructions isn't really true either. If he'd put the board up and subbed him it's not like he could actually stay on.

How big is this bench? On Tuesday Duffy and Holmes were on it, and this was without Brooks coming back. If he's here he needs to step it up.

Fair point but if its consistent with similar behaviour and not doing what you’re told in other areas, it might be misinterpreted. Either way it’s a pity as he has something and neither party is currently benefiting.

The issue we've had this season has been depth. Brooks is out, so we're an injury to Duffy or Holmes away from being back to x1 attacking midfielders. As Wenger/Klopp/Pep are showing - you can never get have too many options when it comes to these sort of players.

As we've seen over the last couple of games, we're not overly gifted in the 'chance creating' dept. If Carruthers staying makes Duffy & Holmes train harder, then he's served a purpose!

Hope he does well at Shrews. I heard the bad attitude thing and obviously we don't see him on the training pitch but I have a lot of respect for him turning down his hometown club to come here in the summer. He has something about him to be willing to do that.

I really hope we don't sell him in the summer, but it's up to him to prove he's worth keeping.
