Wonder what has happened to these two pre-season?

Of the transfer listed players Ched, Ben Heneghan, Leon and Jake Wright have all been pictured training with the rest of the squad but no sign of Samir or Ricky and Holmes' tweet the other week suggested he was on his way back to pre-season training?

Not really bothered to be honest, just close season boredom and a vague interest......presume if they are at the club they are training with the U23's although I hope they are close to securing moves away.

Out of interest Ricky, do you think that the club (encompassing people who actually and actively work in football), deliberately sabotages itself? You seem to suggest we're constantly making errors in the running of the club that you can see but they cannot?

No, with this I'm just pointing out how fucking irritating it is that seemingly no club below the Championship will sign our unwanted players without basically being given them.

Whether we could do more to get rid permanently, I don't know.

Carruthers was a good signing. No blame there. Holmes was a strange one.

One thing I wouldn't like is if they're now on big wages due to promotion rises despite playing no part. I'd like to think we could include clauses dictating that you actually have to play in the promotion season to trigger a wage rise.

Shifting Wright, Carruthers and Holmes who will now all be on £10K plus will be tough. Realistically none of them are championship standard players, so we are hoping for L1 clubs to be prepared to take their half a million a year wages on, which isnt going to happen. So United will almost inevitably have to either reach an agreement with them for the remainder of contracts, or be prepared to heavily subsidise wages to make any loan to permanent move happen.

In fairness to the those lads, they're on belting money so wont want to give that up (understandably) and with Holmes (32) and Wright (33) at the back end of their careers they'll sit tight for as long as they can. Cant blame them really.

Leonard made sense. We were shopping in the bargain basement, took a gamble, he covered two positions, and while he didn't turn out good enough for us he has been taken by another Championship club.

Holmes I didn't really get, but what you have to remember is no one really understood Jake Wright either - aging player who'd spent his career at a lower level than we wanted to be at - and Wright was excellent.

Just stick Holmes on the list of failed signings along with Nathan Thomas and that god awful wingback whose name I can't remember and look at how much longer the list of successes is.

At least we made a profit on Leonard. Holmes had little to no resale value at all when he signed.

We’ll struggle to move them on without subsidising their wages , they’ve probably also received promotion bonuses too , reality of modern day football is that when a player wants to go a contract isn’t worth a wank but if if a player wants to sit and get splinters in his arse sat on the bench he can sit it out with a cigar & glass of bubbly

Meant to add that’s why I had a lot of respect for Jay O’Shea he was offered a contract at end of the league 1 campaign but turned it down as he wanted to be playing regular first team football , it’s a short career if it was me I’d want the same

Both spent significant spells out injured last year. Be amazed if a L1 team gambled signing them on a full contract. Not sure either are good enough for the Championship either. Be a loan or nowt i guess.

Every manager makes mistakes in the transfer market. Lord Wilder has made a few but that is offset by some inspired moves of sheer brilliance.

Carruthers and Holmes were both brought in for a very specific role, but neither of them got the chance to do it thanks to the imperious form of Mark Duffy who it has to be said gets better and better with age.

Leonard did well before he came to us and was one of the best players for Millwall after he left. Made complete sense but moves often don't work out and maybe the same applies to Evans who was also signed in that JTW. Wilder knew Holmes inside out and he had been brilliant at times for Charlton. It all looked timely at the time and Wilder was delighted the club had backed him for the run-in.

The January before Carruthers came with a big reputation as a player with potential but some baggage as a person. Injuries often accompany poor lifestyle ( that's simply a hunch) and certainly he didn't show good attitude on the pitch when I saw him anyway. The lad has wasted a big opportunity to be a Premier League player next month. Maybe the medical people and the Head Scout fell a bit short with this deal.

I think Holmes and Carruthers were expected to introduce creativity into the team. They both are the type who need things to revolve around them and never established that for us.

While writing this I wonder how many JTW signings turn out well for us.

There both top end league 1 players so don’t see why we wouldn’t be able to get rid of them both. With our wage structure can’t see them being on much money

Both fantastically skilfull players who could offer a lot to a top end L1 or lower CH team.

Carruthers played his part (when fit) in the back end of the title season.

Holmes unfortunately signed a year too late and found it tough to breakthrough.

Rotherham or Donny would be good fits for them but I imagine they'll both end up back 'darn sarf'... Like Southend or sumat

Woodward, I'd ask a Millwall fan about Leonard if I was you. One at work who has a season ticket reckons they paid 1.5m for him and hes been rubbish. We did a good job getting rid of him for more than we paid for him but that was partly down to the fact Millwall had just sold Saville and were desperate for a midfielder
