The next three games could well decide this lads future at the Lane.
First of all it will be very interesting to see if Wilder even starts Carruthers on Saturday, if he is on the bench again I think we can safely say he is probably on his way out in January. Seen another thread in the ‘Rumours Section’ suggesting a deal with Charlton involving Holmes coming our way.
However if he is given a starting berth and he manages a good performance or, more importantly three in a row, maybe, just maybe, it might just give him until the end of the season to see if he can be an important player for us.
I have to say I have been very disappointed with his contribution recently, when he arrived last year he looked like he could be a really good player for us but just seems to have drifted and not shown the depth of desire to perform the rest of the players who have come in have done.
Be interested to hear others thoughts

I'd personally like to see him given a chance in the deeper midfield role.

He's almost been converted into another number 10 since arriving, and I can't see him getting ahead of Duffy or Brooks in that position.

As you say, if he doesn't get the chance now without Fleck or Coutts, he'll never get the chance.
I remember the Peterborough away game last season, where we were without Coutts, and he played deeper alongside Fleck. I though he was excellent, and really needs a chance now to find those sort of performances again.

Love Bash, but his best position is RCB not midfield.

Technically brilliant. Makes lots of bad decisions though and doesn’t put the work in to hold down a spot in the team. The game seems to bypass him at times, especially defensively. I know that’s not really his game, but we need a complete central midfielder at the moment and I don’t think he can do it. It goes without saying that I hope he proves me wrong.

I have a feeling, based on nothing but a hunch, that he might be on his way. But I do think he should get some game time. He deserves a chance. I wonder if it will be Bash and Lundstram however, but we shall see.

I think he's a very good player, but it simply might not work out for him here. And as much as I like him, I'd take Holmes all day long, just to see what magic set-pieces he'd create with Alan Knill.

Then there was Northampton away when he was subbed at half-time due to being utter dog-shite....far too inconsistent for me, to be fair to the lad though I think a lot of his problems stem from trying too hard when he gets his 10 minutes as sub...

I agree about playing him deeper. When he came on against Fulham he played a bit deeper and Fleck pushed forward. It might just be playing deeper might stop him getting pulled out of position and then leaving us exposed defensively.
Be a very negative team selection if he goes for Lundstram and Basham in midfield and not sure that Wilder does the shore it up in midfield
Be a very interesting team sheet to see come just after 2pm on Saturday

It probably is now or never for him.

I'd like to see him start. Preston aren't quite the physical, rugged side they were so it's not an entirely unsuitable game for him.

I think we'll go with Basham and Lundstram though and I couldn't argue with that too much.

not a fan i have to say. but players have proved me wrong before and i hope the lad does too. but i can see a 3 of lundstram. bash and duffy starting at the weekend

I don’t think he’ll start unless we change the shape.

He won’t replace Duffy or Brooks and I can’t see him doing the Lundstram/Fleck role.

Wilders been playing him out of position . He's a Right Wing Back and anyone with even half a brain cell can see it .

Stop fuckin abart Wilder tha' wasting Carruthers undoubted talent

Well whatever his skills and attributes the manager doesn’t seem to think he’s worth a start, should be on his way in january, as someone said, most likely Chawton Athletic.

Yeah, Bash and Lundy. Then if we're 1-0 down with twenty minutes to go CW will make a triple substitution of Carruthers for Stearman, Donaldson for JOC and Brooks for Moore. Coz we're fucking going for it.

Which players haven't taken a run of games to get up to speed?
suggesting a deal with Charlton involving Holmes coming our way.
and this as a transfer has to be dead, the man chose Charlton over United and if that doesn't tell you everything you need to know, it was probably because they offered more money, so he's not in it for the football...I could go on but I'll wager he's failed 3 of the 15 point checklist right there.

I could sugar coat this eluding to his lack of chances and unrealised talent but I think he's a bit bobaa and never become a proper blade . I'd get shut

Fully expecting Bash and Lundstram in the engine room, but would love to see Carruthers trusted to start alongside Lundstram.

But does he merit being trusted in that role? Not much evidence this season that Wilder does have a lot of trust in him tbh.

Caruthers can only start a game if he plays in the Duffy role behind the front two, he can’t be trusted defensively to play anywhere else and as Duffy is much better at the role then Caruthers shouldn’t start for me.

The only only other time he gets a game in my opinion is as sub when we are a couple up and he has time and space to attack the opposition.

But of a luxury players and may well move back to League one in Jan or the summer.

I must admit he hasn't impressed in recent games...maybe he needs a run of games like Lundstram to get up to speed.
If he's left out again,I think his days might be numbered....I hope he gets a start at Preston and plays a blinder, but needs to look after the ball a lot better than recently.

Question is - Do you trust Carruthers away to Preston. I struggle if I am honest. I would even prefer to give the lad Slater a start and leave Bash at the back, but I think bash will be in midfield and CCV will be back.

Come on, let’s be honest, how many games has he started on the bounce? Hardly any so let’s be realistic and give a very good player a chance eh?

Just because Wilder hasn’t been able to pick him doesn’t mean he’s shite, it’s because our players have been in terrific form for the most part of his tenure and those saying he hasn’t proved himself are talking absolute bollocks because he hasn’t had the chance to.

to be fair, I thought the same of him last season. He switches off and doesnt do enough for me. Each to their own. I would be amazed if he played on Saturday and was here after February personally. Nothing personal against the lad
