Playing left back for Australia against Irish Republic. He looked distinctly average but no-one on the Irish team exploited it so he is got away with it. Rounds off the match with an absolute screamer from 35 yards, a tremendous goal - hopefully that will get someone to buy him:thumbup:

what a goal Carns..
personally I don't think he has been given a fair crack and lets face it could he really be any worse than Quinn or Howard?

Technically he's very good.

But he's a bit nesh.

Saying that it's worth a shot using him to replace Quinn or Howard.

I've thoughtloads of times that he shold be given a run in the team either at left back or midfield. I think he played central mid vs Bolton in FA cup when robson was in charge and he had a good game. He's got a very good pass, can thread it through well. Bit hit and miss as to when he plays well but he's never been given an extended run in the team.

I think he'd be better than Quinn or Howard. After all he's an international and has been for some time. Blackwell - I've given him the benefit of the doubt and told people to lay off him but he really needs to either buy a midfielder or try someone else other than the two muppets he keeps playing.... Carney should get a shout. But no, he'll sign for Anderlecht and play in the champions league, just like we did with Colin Kazim Richards, loads of talent, lets sell!

Carney in centre midfield?

That'd be an act of pure cruelty. The poor flower would get minced. (no pun intended)

Haven't seen tonights goal but was it similar to the belter he scored against Nigeria ?

I say give him a chance. Can't be any worse than Quinn or Howard as The One said.

Might be worth a punt.

Could do with someone who can score a few screaming goals from midfield.

Although JohnDenver might be right he may not be tough enough to handle playing a central midfield role in this division.

I thought Bayern wanted him at some point?

Sorry i stand corrected he wasn't centre midfield but he was part of a front 3 at times and as a wide man in a 451 formation. He did play well and his goal was very composed! Match Report Give a try. Any thing is better than bloody Mini Quinn or that stupid dingle!

He's a bit of a mystery really isn't he? He had a definite falling out with Blackwell last year and I get the impression Blackwell is not the sort of bloke to forget about that in a hurry. On the other hand he is clearly doing neither himself or us any good drawing a wage and not getting a sniff of a game. He has got ability, a good touch, the ability to pass but he always seems a bit flat footed to me, lacking pace and lacking a competitive instinct, I really can't see him cutting it week in week out through the winter in the championship. So get rid.

Which is why Sharp is on the list and by all accounts had a good game last night?

I saw his goal and he took it well. Haven't i said before play to Sharps strengths (play the ball to feet) and he'll score us goals!

I've got a funny feeling that Treacy might just oblige .

Cheers Highbury ....Yep...it WAS as good as the goal against Nigeria. (couldn't resist watching that one a couple more times too :-) ... )

Rather disturbingly, Craig Beattie had a great game vs. Bury the other night...

Even a blind squirrel can find the occasional nut.

'He can't be worse than Quinn or Howard' shouldn't be a basis for selection as that applies to pretty much anyone.

Playing him central midfield would be worse than what we did to Chris Armstrong, although left-back or left-wing he looks good. Don't see why he never gets played.

Because he's slow and cowardly. As others have commented on various forums (both United and Norwich) he's history's only nesh Australian.

In an environment where physical contact is minimal, he gets time on the ball and/or the opposition isn't very good, eg World Cup qualifiers against Asian countries and international friendlies, he looks a class player. When the rough boys come out to play he's lost.

The problem is that he's never with us as he's away on international duty with Australia Under 13's v Mars and Jupiter... Considering that the internationals finish in Nov and restart in March you'd think he'd work his way into the team if he was good enough.

He went on loan to Norwich last season and did nothing.

Yes he occasionally gets goals for Aus but he's never pushed his way into the team, so we need to get rid of him.

His chance would've been v Port Vale, but he was away again...

Agree with Paulus on this one particularly the flat footed part.

For some reason the lad doesn't look like a footballer, or run like a footballer or have the nature of a footballer .
Something to do with having too long a body and short legs.
As the Phrase goes "If it looks like Sh*t ....."etc .
