The explanation from the FL as to what goes on, for those who don't understand how the draw works:

The highest placed clubs in last season's league tables, Burnley and Hull City, have been given a bye to Round 2 and the remaining 70 Football League clubs go into the draw.

The next 35 clubs in last season's tables (down to Brighton & Hove Albion who finished in 13th place in League 1) will be seeded and drawn against the remaining 35 clubs.

As usual the Round 1 draw will be split into North and South sections with 15 northern pairings and 20 southern ones.

Rovrum or Crookedspirefield away.

Rovrum away would be lovely.

We should get a home draw. Apparently Chesterfield have requested an away tie just in case the ground isn't ready.

Aye... Hartlepool away to be played week commencing 9th August.

That'll do me :) Another ground in.

I should imagine this will be a new ground in for quite a few people seeing as we haven't played there for 22 years :)

The first time I saw Brian Deane play for United was at the Victoria ground in what must have been a first round League cup tie, that was the start of something good, maybe it's a good omen.

I wonder why Notts county were in south section and Notts Forest in the north?

I guess that it's because the seeded teams change each year (based on league position?) so the unseeded teams in the Midlands have to be moved around to balance the draw.

We played Port Vale in the first round last year but they are in the southern half of the draw this year.

It's a good question though. Notts County are north of the Trent. Forest are south of the Trent. Logic suggests Forest should have been in the southern half of the draw. Conspiracy theory anyone?

The fact that one is seeded and the other unseeded might have something to do with it seeing as they need 35 of each.

Chesterfield got Middlebrough, so their request for an away tie fell on deaf ears.
bet if Wendy had requested an away tie they'd have got one

Quite happy with Hartlepool away. Would be nice to get to that one, if possible!

Didn't manage to see the pitch but the rest of the ground is looking well.

Nipped to Chezzy Tesco last night and the ground signage is up.

August 7th is the first day of the season. Obviously this season, we played the Friday night.

Reasonably pleased with the draw. Another ground to visit and a traditional ground at that.

It'll be nice if Sir Jeff is on Soccer Special duties that night, but with it being midweek i doubt it :(

I see it most days, and they have been mowing the pitch for a couple of weeks now. The car park on the north side is done except for painting the lines, and the rest of the car park should be done by next week. I think it looks OK. Its a shame Saltergate and all its history is going to be built over, but for teams like Chesterfield their off the field activities provide a welcome boost to the finances. It has been the making of Shrewsbury from a financial sense at least and is a model that is being widely copied.

Chezzy Tesco, on the other hand, is an invention of the Devil...

Hartlepool.............tick No 86.

Pleased with this one.
