Not been today but looking at the photos, Collins was the captain. Is this correct and, if so, Mr. Wilson's way of building Collins' confidence or just a big piss off to the fans at the recent forum who slagged him off?

I'd say it's likely to be the former but interesting choice either way.

Interesting choice and he had a half decent game today to be honest.

Quite clear that in the absence of Morgs and Ertl, DW views Collins as being the experienced one at the back. I'd have thought for the time-being he'll be certainly starting, particularly given the age of the other likely defenders starting.

Collins was 'decent' in the first half. He did the basics well and had Jean-Francois and McDonald to give the ball to so he could do the flashy stuff. Only a couple of aimless balls forward.

Changed when Maguire was beside him and Monty and Doyle were in front of him. Maguire is inexperienced and needs someone reliable beside him to give the ball to when he needs to. So Collins had to do more with the ball and with Monty in front of him, he had little chance. Cue the usual 'panicky' central defence and Collins starts to look woeful again.

If we play Collins, he has to play alongside Jean-Francois with Kruk at LB. He cannot play alongside Maguire.

But what a waste of Maguire that would be. So I'd go with Maguire and Jean-Francois at CB, Kruk and Lowton at FB. Yes, not much experience there BUT I'd rather see younger lads making a couple of mistakes - as is their right to as younger players - than someone like Collins making the mistakes that he is guaranteed to.

Simonsen is enough of a liability without Collins as well. The knock on effect of Collins with few options around him is scary. Blackpool came right into the game when Monty and Maguire came on and Kruk and McDonald went off. Not a knock at Big Harry, he needs someone other than Collins beside him.

If I was Wilson, I'd be signing up Kruk for sure and I'd be offering McDonald a short term deal to prove himself (Maybe till January?) with a chance of a longer deal if he does.

I'd be happy with this at Oldham next week ...

Simonsen
Lowton - LJF - Maguire - Kruk
Flynn/Willo - McDonald - Doyle/Quinn/Willo - Tonne
Slew/Boggy - Porter

I agree Loughboro and don't necessarily think it's a bad decision. If Collins can cut out the silly mistakes he looks otherwise solid. Hopefully with a bit of confidence he'll do well this season.

I think Collins is shite, but my Leeds mate insists he did a half decent job for them in the Turd. Preferably we'd get rid, but it looks unlikely - so let's hope a bit of confidence may make him look more than a park footballer.

Slow, poor control of the ball, poor positional sense. That's ater the silly mistakes. You've clearly spotted something I haven't. Let's hope you're right

you are talking about Maguire's performance today with that quote arent you.

I thought the fan's latest scapregoat had a good game today especially in the first half and I would be very surprised if the back 4 that started today didn't start at Oldham.

Maguire didn't look fit

Collins looked solid enough 1st half.
Lescinel was the stand out in the defense until the 2nd half when he got beaten for pace a couple of times.
They look a decent partnership together

Collins had a good game today he was very solid and did what he had to do. He looked better in the first half as we had a better XI on the field. In the 2nd half things got changed, must admit I wasnt happy with the mid field. For all his good touches etc I think Jean Francois could be an accident waiting to happen, he got wrong side of his man a couple of times in the 2nd half hopefully this was just a blip and not something we are going to see on a regular basis, but Swindon fans have said hes usually got a mistake waiting to happen in his game

Da da daaa! It's a dirty job but someone's gotta do it

I didn't see yesterday's half paced friendly. I'm basing my opinion on a good number of competitive matches last season - and he clearly isn't being a scapegoat. His performances last season were nothing short of woeful.

le ds fans I know all said there is always a mistake in collins and doyle is a headless chicken, anything above the grass except the ball he will kick, and neither have any pace.
But new season starts next week so will have to wait and see how it goes, but I do hope they play well, but wont hold my breath.
