without repeating myself as I've written all my thoughts
in one post earlier,
Well there's not much point building an extension if we don't think we'd fill it. Plus a lot depends on what happens on the pitch. When I went to the stadium of light the attendance was 29000 plus but there were banks of empty seats and zero atmosphere from the home fans. Admittedly they were in the doldrums. I reckon a 35000 capacity would be ideal for us. Atmosphere was cracking at molyneux Mon night with 31000 plus.
I think 35k, maybe a few k more (availability for future), but important that they are good 35k seats. If they go for a more expensive option on the kop, and completely rebuild it will of course cost a lost more, but extra revenue from it. I hate the extension plan personally. The kop was a quick job, and needs replacing IMO.
If we expand and get relegated there'll be no return on investment.
Click on the link above, the problem we (and all clubs for that matter, unless relocation) is you either lose seats whilst building, when in the big leagues and got money coming in... OR spend money on ground in lower leagues which is unpopular with fans too, as they want investment in the team. There has to be some middle ground.
hull are struggling now with a near 30k seat stadium and got 10k last home game
We aren't Hull though.
The days of 12k crowds which is what I grew up with, hopefully won't happen again, but can't not develop based on this.
Their ground is a bowl too, like Sunderland in other example. If the Kop is done right, and if we do go down this or next or next or whenever, then I think with good and easier ticketing (I've not tried for years to get my own ticket, it's just too much hard work now - I used to go to football to get away from normal every day shit... now getting a ticket is a nightmare, and has been for years. Not new this since Prem IMO.
I think the number of Blades fans there are - I know hundreds just from working, and the pubs around here... loads of old timers... people like me (went religiously). These can all be tempted back. We have 80k students in Sheff, if attendances go down, do what Fulham did, have a neutral area, get 3k fans in all paying for tickets and pies and beer.
And as I've always said, when ground has loads of seats every year - get kids in. They're the fans of the future. No kids, no Blades in the future.
p.s. completely cocked up all the quotes, and tried best to repair!
